Chapter Ninety-Three: Useful
It wasn’t until he saw his master that Song Yue’s tightly wound heart finally began to ease.
His master appeared unharmed.
But his master’s wife... her condition seemed somewhat off.
When Song Yue saw her, she looked pale. Though she had rarely worn a touch of makeup, the thin layer clearly couldn’t conceal her exhaustion.
“Are you hurt?” Song Yue frowned, noticing one of her arms seemed awkwardly held.
“It’s nothing, just a small injury. I’ll be fine in two days,” she said with a gentle smile, her eyes filled with affection. “The starlit missions haven’t been long, but they’re hard. Didn’t I tell you to rest at home? Why did you come all this way? Your master and I are both fine...”
“Both hurt and still say you’re fine?” Song Yue’s voice held a hint of anger. He had suspected the Li family might have come after his master and his wife, but he thought they would hold back within the capital’s jurisdiction.
Yet now, seeing her like this, it was clear they had already thrown caution to the wind.
Though his master and his wife lived in a villa district on the outskirts of the capital, it wasn’t a remote area. The neighborhood was well-equipped with daily necessities, and people often came and went, bustling and lively.
Her exhaustion and injured arm suggested this was not the result of a simple skirmish.
“It’s really not that bad. Don’t worry,” she said softly, always gentle toward Song Yue.
Without hesitation, Song Yue took out several potent medicines from the Stone Tablet Realm and handed them to her. “These should help your recovery.”
She remained silent for a moment, then looked at him with a fond smile. “This is too extravagant. These are true high-level medicines meant to elevate one’s realm. Using them on a minor injury like mine would be a waste.”
Song Yue pouted, “Take it or I’ll throw it away.”
She laughed softly, “Alright, alright, I’ll keep them.”
Then, holding the medicines, she turned and left. Song Yue looked at his master and asked, “Master, has the Li family gone mad?”
His master replied, “It’s just a difference in stance. They’re now so deeply entrenched in their ways that even if they wanted to stop, it’s probably too late.”
“I came here partly hoping to persuade the higher-ups to take direct action and cut off this malignant tumor; partly to make early preparations. It’s a pity I lack some materials...” His master waved his hand dismissively. “Enough about that. Tell me what you’ve gained from this trip. Any new discoveries?”
“I’ve learned quite a bit. But Master, I have something here. I don’t know if it can help with your seal.”
At the mention of this, Song Yue’s interest visibly brightened—his greatest wish was for his master to regain normalcy.
His master smiled quietly, his gaze growing even more affectionate. This child never forgot about this matter no matter where he went. But as always, if the seal could have been broken so easily, why would it have lasted so many years?
The methods of supreme beings are beyond ordinary imagination.
Yet, he didn’t want to discourage Song Yue’s enthusiasm and asked, “What is it? Show me.”
Song Yue said, “I can’t figure it out. You’ll have to see for yourself.”
He opened the Jade Void Ascending Tablet and led his master inside.
Inside, the realm was still lush and verdant, filled with a strong scent of herbs.
In one corner lay a pile of “seafood.”
Song Yue pointed to five colored small flags collected by the stone tablet, “This thing is called the Five-Colored Backrest Flags by some. When I tried to communicate with them mentally, the small black flag was fierce—it directly crushed my probing mental power. It hurt quite a bit.”
As Song Yue chattered on, he noticed his master’s astonished expression.
“Is it useful?” Song Yue couldn’t help but ask.
His master came back to his senses and looked at him. “This is what you brought back?”
“Not just this. There’s also a bronze divine tree, very much like the one you told me about, with nine birds and a dragon. I sensed its vastness in the spiritual realm—it’s truly a ‘Heaven-Connecting Divine Tree.’ I took it…”
“The bronze divine tree? The one with nine birds and a dragon?”
His master, unusually, showed a hint of emotion.
“Yeah, it’s quite powerful, right?” Song Yue asked.
“Tell me everything else you found, so my heart doesn’t suffer too much,” his master joked lightly.
Song Yue didn’t take the joke seriously—given his master’s experience, what could possibly be too much?
“In that place, just like in the Kunlun underground palace, I met a man in white who preached doctrines. He seemed to see me and told me to listen carefully.”
His master took a deep breath. “What teachings?”
“Body cultivation methods. They included many wondrous martial techniques—some could dramatically boost combat power temporarily, others were transformation techniques...”
“Transformation techniques? The Eight or Nine Profound Skills?” His master’s expression grew serious.
“I don’t know if they’re the legendary Eight or Nine Profound Skills. But when practicing those techniques, it felt as if billions of cells in my body were activated. Through visualization, I could transform into any form, though only briefly...” Song Yue’s tone held some regret.
His master was speechless. To gain enlightenment immediately upon hearing teachings yet complain about short duration... He had once thought himself the pinnacle genius, and even in the Nine Pass Battlefield, few matched his talent.
But this disciple before him continuously shattered his perceptions.
“Besides that, I got some scriptures: the Great Wind Scripture, Water Mastery Scripture, Taiyi Five Thunder Methods, Alchemy Scriptures, Infinite Fire Control Techniques, and some others. I also fought quite a few battles there...” Song Yue then recounted the conflict with the Ou family and his dealings with the Lin family.
His master nodded repeatedly. “You’ve done well.”
“Oh, and Master, I also went to see my brother...” Song Yue continued, telling him again about the matters on the Firestorm Star. His master listened, utterly amazed.
He looked at Song Yue as if he were a strange creature.
“Fire essence? You took on the guise of their overseer and retrieved over a hundred kilograms from a group of extortionists? Not grams, kilograms?”
Song Yue nodded. “Yes, I researched it. This stuff is powerful and applicable in many fields.”
His master sighed, marveling. “I suddenly feel you might be the reincarnation of some ancient deity.”
Song Yue was speechless.
But his master was serious, murmuring, “Your fortune is truly abnormal!”
“To be born with innate heavenly energy, to cross time and space to learn spiritual methods in the Kunlun underground palace, then to travel to distant places like Tianyue Star and acquire body cultivation techniques, to obtain top-tier scriptures and divine artifacts even in the Nine Pass Battlefield...”
His master’s usually calm face showed deep emotion. “It’s unbelievable!”
“If you’re not the reincarnation of some great god from ancient times, then nothing makes sense!”
“Why would a great figure need tens of billions of years to reincarnate?” Song Yue looked at him.
Though he had joked like this himself before, it was only a self-mockery.
His master shook his head. “It’s just a guess. Your fortune is strange, too strong to explain.”
Song Yue chuckled, “Master, maybe I’m the destined one they’ve awaited through countless reincarnations on Earth! Why must it be a great figure’s reincarnation?”
His master paused, then laughed. “That’s true!”
Then his gaze fell on the five small flags, silent as dead dogs, and suddenly his face lit up with a radiant smile.
A smile Song Yue had never seen on him since they met.
It was neither arrogant nor flamboyant, but filled with confidence.
“You sealed me for decades. If nothing unexpected happens, this seal will follow me until death. Even after death... the seal remains, reincarnation and cycles shadow me, making each life worse than the last!”
Song Yue’s heart pounded. He hadn’t expected the seal to be so cruel.
It was meant to suppress his master for all lifetimes!
No wonder after sealing his master, they never followed up.
“But you probably never imagined that when a god falls, the temples left behind by those ancient powers still contain numerous divine artifacts.”
His master sighed deeply, eyes shimmering with moisture.
His eyes reddened slightly.
He took a deep breath, trying to steady his emotions, then looked at Song Yue and said, “This will help.”
“Really?”
Hearing his master’s confirmation, Song Yue was almost disbelieving, fearing it was just to comfort him.
“Really!” His master’s voice was full of emotion. “The Five-Colored Backrest Flags can seal, suppress, and isolate. Each flag has a completely different function. Equally, they can break seals and suppressions!”
He looked at Song Yue. “In this realm, there are hardly any divine artifacts of higher rank than these.”
“So?”
Song Yue looked at his master.
“It should be fine!” His master said.
Song Yue clenched his fist, feeling an urge to shout aloud, but he restrained himself.
“Refining it will take time. This is the best item and the best chance. Though some risks remain, it’s okay,” his master said confidently. “I can handle them!”
As he spoke, he raised his hand. The five silent flags suddenly flew into the air, lining up, fluttering as if stirred by an unseen wind.
Song Yue was stunned.
This thing was bullying him! When he tried to communicate mentally, it gave no response and mercilessly crushed his mental power.
Now, at a flick of his master’s hand, they flew up on their own?
Too much!
The next moment, his master’s face grew serious. He formed hand seals and chanted incantations. Song Yue clearly felt a strange resonance emanate from the stone tablet realm.
One by one, the five flags flew into his master’s body and vanished instantly.
His master then said to Song Yue, “Child, thank you!”
Song Yue looked at him. “Master, do we really need to say those words to each other?”
His master nodded seriously. “Yes, because of this, your master’s fate will be rewritten!”
Joy blossomed on Song Yue’s face. “Will you soon return to your original realm?”
His master smiled. “Not that soon. But after the initial refinement, I can temporarily regain some strength. At least enough to deal with the Li family!”
