Chapter 50: The First Physical Education Class
The fourth period on Friday afternoon was also the last class of the day, with Classes 5, 6, 7, and 8 attending together.
As they arrived at the sports field, many boys eagerly grabbed basketballs and began playing, while the others sat on the nearby grass, watching the game and waiting for the teacher to arrive.
“Hey, hey, why are you grabbing the ball like that?”
“I didn’t break any rules.”
“Stop arguing, either play or leave.”
As a few boys quarreled over something trivial, a blonde girl in a blue varsity jacket strolled toward them.
Ma Zhiyu's eyes widened as he recalled the red Maserati from that day.
“Isn’t that the girl from before? Xu Lin, is she your cousin?”
“I’ve told you so many times already, she isn’t. I won’t hide it anymore—she’s our PE teacher.”
“What?! You’ve got to be kidding me!”
Those nearby who overheard his words were all incredulous.
But the girl had already approached. She picked up a whistle and blew it sharply.
“Assemble!”
Her petite frame belied the force of her voice, which instantly compelled everyone to stand, staring in disbelief at the beautiful girl with golden twin ponytails.
“Each class, line up according to your assigned order—one minute!”
Most students obeyed and began moving, but the boys playing basketball kept chatting, not coming over.
Chu Fengyi’s brows furrowed; she strode toward them. Xu Lin swallowed nervously.
Is she really going to get physical in school? She just started—wouldn’t that mean immediate resignation?
Everyone secretly watched as the blond, beautiful teacher grabbed the basketball from the boys, leaving them stunned.
In the next instant, she leapt like a panther, lightning-fast, and reached the hoop. With a resounding bang, she slammed the ball down—a powerful dunk!
With another forceful tug, the metallic hoop was wrenched off its mount, crashing to the ground with a sharp crack! The basketball exploded with a loud pop.
“Basketball—claim it in my office tomorrow.”
The field fell silent. The boys, up close, had just witnessed a girl barely over four-foot-six dunking and even breaking the hoop.
Their worldview was shattered—was this a movie?
Chu Fengyi dusted off her hands and glared, “Go stand in line!”
“Alright!”
The other students remembered what their teacher had told them—the new PE teacher apparently knew martial arts. For days, they’d forgotten, but now it was proven true, and she was formidable.
That leap, that grip—she could tear down a metal hoop. Forget their skinny frames; a slap from her might break them apart.
“Stand straight! Don’t slouch! Is that how you stand at attention?”
“Teacher, I really can’t stand up straight, I’ve tried my best,” replied a tall, thin boy from the neighboring class, trembling under Chu Fengyi’s stern voice.
She approached, pressed his waist, grabbed his shirt, pushed down—he let out a miserable cry.
“It hurts, teacher… I…”
“Does it still hurt now?” She released him after a few seconds and asked again.
The tall boy shifted, realizing the pain had vanished and his body was suddenly upright—a problem he’d had since childhood.
“This happened because your posture’s been wrong since you were little. I’ve corrected it, but if you don’t pay attention, it’ll come back.”
He nodded, feeling less afraid of the new teacher.
The others, seeing the boy’s straightened back, were impressed—this teacher really had skills, not just empty boasts.
“First, everyone, I am Chu Fengyi, your PE teacher, and you might say your physical fitness coach as well.”
“Hello, Teacher Chu!” Two voices called out from the crowd, and the rest quickly followed in unison.
“Hello, Teacher Chu!”
“Now that’s the spirit! Good, today I won’t teach you how to adjust your sitting or standing posture. You all know how hard it is to keep a proper stance during military training.”
Chu Fengyi’s face softened a bit, and the students felt she wasn’t bad after all.
She truly had ability, not just talk, and rumor had it she knew martial arts. Once they got familiar, perhaps they could learn a few moves.
But then Chu Fengyi continued, “For the next month, we’ll focus on improving your physical fitness. Once that’s up, you can learn other things.”
“To build fitness, we’ll start with the basics: running, push-ups, or pull-ups. Choose one.”
“Ahhh…” Groans and complaints echoed through the ranks.
“Teacher, do girls have to do pull-ups too?” a girl raised her arm.
“Yes, what’s the difference? You’re all so weak.”
“But we really…”
“Am I stronger than you? If I can do it, why can’t you? I can do many pull-ups—if you manage just one, that’s progress. Make your choice.”
Chu Fengyi’s words quieted the group, who resignedly discussed their options. Half a minute later, most had decided.
“Running!”
“Alright, then running. Personally, I recommend running and swimming. Begin!”
“Run freely—no need to queue, no need for teams, just run however you like!”
“Really?”
“Of course. But if you’re too slow, I’ll come kick you.”
“I’m telling you now, it’s not corporal punishment, since you won’t get hurt. I know what I’m doing.”
Chu Fengyi spoke earnestly, but everyone was drenched in cold sweat—they sensed she wasn’t joking.
“Let’s start!”
Everyone began running. A few boys seemed to compete, darting off like racers!
Other athletic boys from different classes refused to be outdone and surged ahead, leaving the rest behind by half a lap.
The other students followed at a normal pace, but Chu Fengyi walked among them.
“Not fast enough! Lift your legs, straighten your backs!”
“Yes!”
“Faster! Do I need to teach you how to run?”
“Okay!”
After more than half a month of training, running was Xu Lin’s specialty—he’d gotten used to jogging to school every day.
Oddly enough, those who supposedly had better physical fitness—Ma Zhiyu, Li Bin, and the like—were gasping for air.
“Adjust your breathing: inhale through your nose, exhale through your mouth, keep a rhythm, breathe in sync with your movement.”
Xu Lin offered a tip, and Li Bin glanced at him in surprise.
“Xu Lin, your fitness really has improved!”
“Training works, Li Bin—you’ve put on weight lately.”
“That’s called getting strong.”
Though some boys were panting, most kept up; the girls’ side, however, was struggling.
Chu Fengyi didn’t discriminate; she kicked both boys and girls to spur them on!
It didn’t hurt, just felt like a shove, but repeated kicks made it seem as if someone was dragging them forward—a rather unpleasant feeling.
But who dared rebel? The fate of the basketball and hoop was fresh in their minds! Run, then—if you can’t resist, you might as well enjoy it.
The rest began competing quietly, partly to show off.
After all, Ji Yun was there, as well as several pretty girls from other classes. For boys in their prime, this was the perfect moment to shine.
No one wanted to look bad, so they pushed themselves to keep up, though some really had poor fitness.
The chubby kids had no choice—they lagged behind and were pulled off the track by Chu Fengyi to do push-ups and pull-ups instead.
After four or five laps, some students truly ran out of stamina. Even being kicked forward, they couldn’t go any further.
Someone in the group called out, “Teacher, when will it end? How many laps?”
“There are fifteen minutes left in class. I’ll give you five minutes to rest at the end—keep going!”
“What?!”
Amid cries of despair, two hundred figures pressed forward under the setting sun!
This class truly let them experience what PE was meant to be. Their most anticipated class now felt as distant as the core subjects—something they increasingly wanted to avoid.
