Chapter 114: Psionic Spatial Gate
"How did you conclude that they would definitely come to raid the camp and rescue their people tonight?"
Joe looked at Ye Hai with unconcealed surprise. Ye Hai shrugged and replied with a smile:
"Have you forgotten about the supplies that were stolen from our camp a while back?"
Joe was taken aback for a moment, confused. He had spent a great deal of time and effort investigating that matter. No matter how diligently he searched the black market in the Ironwood Forest, he had come up empty-handed.
"The theft is related to these Dusa rebels?"
"It wasn't the work of the Shesha Sect?"
Ye Hai nodded and answered, "After we captured the Dusa rebels who attacked us, we confiscated their weapons... The appearance of those weapons had been modified! But Javier is a Great Tree Star native; he is far too familiar with the weaponry produced by his home world. No matter how they altered the exterior, the moment Javier touched them, those petty tricks had nowhere to hide. This batch of weapons was produced on the Great Tree Star. You spent so much time scouting the black market; you should be well aware that there are no merchants from the Great Tree Star in the Ironwood Forest black market. Therefore, this batch of weapons can only be the ones that were stolen from us."
"I analyzed it before; the theft must have been an inside job. In other words, we have a mole for the Dusa rebels within our ranks! Although I don't know how they communicate... to move such a large amount of supplies silently and without leaving a trace, they must have access to special means. Since that's the case, the news of their Saintess being captured must have been relayed back immediately. Her psionic power might be optional for us, but for any other faction, the ability to resurrect the dead is clearly extremely rare. I don't believe the Dusa rebels would just abandon their Saintess."
"Therefore, coming to rescue the Saintess is their only choice. I brought the Saintess back to the camp specifically to make it easy for them to pass the information out... And by not letting anyone near the infirmary, I ensured they couldn't confirm her true condition. They would inevitably become anxious, and that impatience would force them to choose an immediate rescue! Today, I’m going to round up all the rats in the Corpse Collector organization in one fell swoop!"
At this point, Ye Hai's tone turned icy. Over the past few months, he felt he had treated everyone in the camp well. Yet, after only being stationed here for a few months, someone had already turned traitor and made contact with the Dusa rebels, even going so far as to steal his supplies.
Although those goods were no longer considered particularly valuable to Ye Hai or the Corpse Collector organization, this act of betrayal was something he absolutely could not tolerate.
The two soon arrived at the scene of the incident. By now, the rescue party of the Dusa rebels was completely surrounded. After returning to the camp, Ye Hai had already made meticulous preparations. Bio-weapons and mutants had surrounded the camp in layers. As soon as the battle began, these bio-weapons and high-level mutants struck from beneath the deep snow, closing in on the invading enemies silently in the dark.
Human vision was severely limited in the night, and the snow-covered terrain was extremely complex. Often, a Licker would lurk in the shadows, its tongue lashing out to drag a rebel soldier away, followed by a miserable, agonizing wail that made everyone’s skin crawl. In a fleeting moment, the roles of hunter and prey had quietly reversed.
In the darkness, the assaulting Dusa rebels had no idea how many enemies surrounded them. All they saw were ghost-like figures, and in the distance, the terrifying, towering silhouettes of high-level mutants flickered in and out of view. To escape the terror behind them, the Dusa rebels attempted a desperate frontal assault on the camp.
But at that moment, the three hundred Corpse Collector soldiers stationed in the camp gave them a brutal blow with powerful suppressive fire. Under the cover of the camp fences, these soldiers fully utilized the techniques they had learned from Javier over the past few months: fire suppression, cross-covering fire, and precision marksmanship. They displayed impressive military discipline.
Ye Hai was very satisfied with the results Javier had achieved; it even exceeded his expectations. The troop-leading capability of a commander from the First Defense Legion of the Great Tree Star was certainly no empty boast.
What caused the Dusa rebels to collapse even further was the near-immortal nature of the Corpse Collector soldiers. Relying on the fortifications, these soldiers easily protected their vital organs, ensuring their internal parasites remained unharmed. Although some unlucky soldiers had their heads blown off by stray beams or projectiles under the rain of high-energy fire, the sight of those "dead" soldiers regrowing their heads and continuing to fire just seconds later caused the Dusa rebels to nearly lose their minds.
"They’re demons!"
"They are an evil existence even more terrifying than the Shesha Sect!"
"God! Someone save me!"
"Saintess... where are you? My brother had his head blown off! Please, come save him..."
Ye Hai and Joe sat on the sturdy fence, faces calm, quietly observing the feast of slaughter before them.
"They should be appearing soon, right?"
"In a little while, this group will be wiped out. Let's see how long you can hold back!"
Suddenly, bright lights erupted from the direction of the infirmary. Ye Hai turned his head to see Liana’s vines shooting into the sky. He curled his lip and said helplessly:
"So, these thousand-plus people attacking the front of the camp were just bait? They’re certainly willing to sacrifice them! It seems that in their eyes, only the Saintess's life matters; these people are nothing more than blades of grass."
Having said this, Ye Hai leaped down behind a soldier and patted him on the shoulder.
"Pass my order: those who surrender will be spared... those who resist will be executed on the spot!"
With that, Ye Hai and Joe quickly left the battlefield. Upon arriving outside the infirmary, they saw a group of people fighting against Liana’s vines and Mr. Lung’s tentacles. Clearly, these were the main force here to rescue the Saintess.
In the distance, about a meter off the ground, a flickering black hole hung in mid-air. The portal was small, only allowing two or three people to pass through at a time. Soldiers were constantly rushing out of this portal, attempting to break through the blockade set by Mr. Lung and Liana.
Seeing this scene, Ye Hai couldn't help but shudder.
"Holy shit!"
"A portal?"
"Damn it, is this for real?"
"Is this psionic power or technology?"
"As far as I know, the Four Great Stars have been researching wormholes, but they haven't made any breakthroughs yet... Then, this thing must be created by psionic power?"
"Sure enough, this is a big fish! It seems this is how our supplies were moved away without a sound!"
"Joe, use your 'Immortal-Slaying Flying Knife' to clear a path... Let me see just how good this weapon is, the one that guy with the deadpan face, Lister, was bragging about. We’re going to charge into that portal together... I’m determined to capture this psionic user who can create portals today!"
