Volume 1, Chapter 20: You Are Blocking My Cell Signal

While casually chatting with Zhao Zhengzhong, Li Yan noticed the group of lively young men. After a brief glance, he couldn’t help but curl his lip slightly. No matter the year, there would always be these spirited young guys and gals around. Sometimes, he even admired them a bit. For instance, if you asked them to pull out a hundred yuan from their pockets, they probably couldn’t. But if you asked them to call a few girls out, one call would summon a whole crowd. And the remarkable thing was that these lively young women were genuinely attractive—truly fresh-faced.
As a result, these spirited young men often captured the youth of many young, confused girls, leaving the honest guys who came later to pick up the pieces. Zhao Zhengzhong instinctively glanced toward one of the lively girls, noticing her exposed waist. A sparkling diamond adorned her navel, and tracing down from her waist, he saw an unusually designed tattoo extending downward. Curiosity piqued, he wondered if the more intimate areas were tattooed as well.
“Don’t look,” Li Yan waved his hand in front of Zhao Zhengzhong’s eyes. “These might be some kind of bio-engineered beings.” Zhao Zhengzhong gave an awkward smile and quietly asked Li Yan, “You think they don’t study and just laze around all day—what will become of them? They can’t just drift through life like this forever, right?”
The college entrance exams were over, and awaiting him was the much-anticipated university life. Many prospective college students harbored dreams of a bright future and aspired to become someone of stature. For those lively young men, he always maintained a critical, high-minded attitude.
Li Yan smiled and said, “Who knows? Maybe they’ll wake up one day and do well. As for the girls, once they’ve had their fun, they’ll probably just marry some honest guy. After all, the world never lacks honest men.”
Upon hearing Li Yan’s remark, Zhao Zhengzhong teased, “Wow, honest guys must have dug up their ancestors’ graves to suffer this badly.”
Li Yan chuckled, raised his glass, and drank with Zhao Zhengzhong.
About an hour later, Brother Nan glanced at Li Yan and his companion, then nudged a lively girl next to him. “Tanya, you go! Like before—once it’s done, I’ll buy you a new phone.”
Tanya, with light green hair and a disenchanted makeup style, brightened immediately at the promise of a new phone.
“Don’t worry, Brother Nan. Watch me,” she said, standing up and sweeping her bangs away from her right eye as she approached Li Yan and Zhao Zhengzhong.
“Hello, handsome, just the two of you?” She twisted her waist and sat beside Li Yan.
Li Yan wrinkled his nose slightly; the cheap perfume she wore was rather pungent.
“Do you need something?” he asked coldly.
Zhao Zhengzhong showed surprise—he hadn’t expected a girl to approach Li Yan like that.
This wasn’t right; Li Yan was dressed quite well tonight, so why wasn’t anyone flirting with him?
Tanya leaned in with her modest chest pressing toward Li Yan. Instinctively, he shifted back, growing wary of this lively girl.

He was well aware of his own looks—not to the point where girls would casually approach him in bars asking for contact info.
And this was a lively girl; when things seem odd, there’s usually a catch.
Most men confronted with female attention in bars should be alert. Chances are, it’s a scam, a trap, or some other scheme.
In short, bar romances are best left to imagination—never take them seriously.
“Oh, handsome, I’ve been watching you from over there for a while. Do you have a QQ account? Give me yours.” She pulled out a flip phone with colorful LED lights flashing on its body, waving it in front of Li Yan.
Feigning confusion, Li Yan replied, “Huh? I need my QQ for myself; you should just sign up for one.”
Tanya was momentarily stunned, her mind unable to process his words.
Opposite them, Zhao Zhengzhong chuckled, silently disapproving of Li Yan’s reply.
“I mean, can we add each other as friends? Please, handsome,” Tanya said, thinking Li Yan hadn’t understood her.
Li Yan shook his head. “Oh, that. Sorry, my friend list is full; I can’t add anyone else.”
“What?” Tanya was once again taken aback. Friend list full? That threw her off.
According to the usual script, she should have succeeded in adding Li Yan as a friend, naturally leading to drinking and chatting together, growing closer. Then a lively guy would suddenly appear, accusing Li Yan of stealing his girlfriend, sparking insults and a heated quarrel fueled by youthful jealousy.
They would gang up on Li Yan, confident in their numbers, and beat him thoroughly.
When the bar’s supervisor arrived, both sides would argue, pointing fingers, eventually settling privately. But Li Yan would be the one taking the beating, left to swallow the loss silently.
Li Yan looked up at Tanya. “You’re blocking my phone signal. Could you move a bit?”
“Blocking your phone signal?” Tanya was baffled—this was beyond her knowledge.
After a moment, she realized she’d been played.
“Damn, who cares? If you don’t want to add me, fine.” Frustrated, she cursed and returned to her group.
Zhao Zhengzhong grinned, “Old Li, her figure’s great, and she’s trying to add you on QQ, but you refuse? What a pity.”
Li Yan curled his lip disdainfully. “You call that a good figure?”
Zhao Zhengzhong protested, “Isn’t it? Look how skinny she is.”
Li Yan was momentarily speechless.

Come to think of it, most lively girls were indeed very slim.
Because to snag free drinks, they might walk ten kilometers on foot or share a single bowl of fried rice among several people.
Given the level of exercise and scant food intake, it was no surprise they were thin.
After hearing Tanya’s words, Brother Nan’s face darkened slightly.
Unexpectedly, this high schooler wasn’t falling for their tricks.
Well then, the backup plan would have to be used.
After a while, the group of lively young men and women suddenly stood up with a clamor and surrounded Li Yan and Zhao Zhengzhong.
Leading them was a young man with dyed yellow hair, who strode up to Li Yan’s table.
He pressed his hands on the edge and whistled at Li Yan.
“Hey, kid, my girl just asked you for your QQ, and you refused. Then you said she was blocking your phone signal? What’s that supposed to mean? You looking down on us?”
Li Yan sighed inwardly—of course, they were here to cause trouble.
Zhao Zhengzhong, despite his simple and honest appearance, had a fierce streak and wasn’t afraid to confront trouble.
Seeing the yellow-haired guy provoke them, he stood up abruptly and snapped, “So what? If he doesn’t want to add you, he doesn’t want to. What’s the big deal?”
The yellow-haired young man shot a challenging look at Zhao Zhengzhong. “Not adding us is disrespectful. We’re out here having fun; you gotta show some face.”
Such a familiar routine made Li Yan smirk coldly inside.
If he hadn’t been reborn with his current awareness, he might have already argued with this yellow-haired guy.
Young and hot-blooded, it’s normal for tempers to flare and fists to fly when provoked.
But if a fight broke out, it would only bring trouble.
He guessed this group saw him and Zhao Zhengzhong as students and wanted an excuse to take advantage of them.
Damn, maybe this was karma for him trying to hustle some startup funds from Li Qiang Group recently.
It shouldn’t be like this.
“Zhao, don’t bother with them. Sit down quietly,” Li Yan signaled Zhao Zhengzhong to sit, warning him not to fall into the yellow-haired guy’s trap.
