Chapter 26: Discovered by Shen Cenzhi
Wei Yang left home early today. When she arrived at the building's lobby, very few people had reached the office yet.
She pressed the elevator button.
The car ascended slowly from the basement, finally chiming with a crisp "ding." As the tightly sealed doors parted, Wei Yang looked up instinctively, a flicker of shock crossing her eyes.
Her heart skipped a beat. Without a trace, she lowered her gaze, her crow-black lashes fluttering gently.
"Mr. Shen?" Wei Yang greeted him with her head bowed.
Shen Cenzhi raised an eyebrow, his expression cold. "Are you not coming in?"
Wei Yang reacted belatedly. "Yes! Coming!" She said, suppressing the panic in her heart as she straightened her back and stepped into the elevator.
She stood against the wall, head lowered and gaze averted, her delicate, fair hands folded obediently.
Shen Cenzhi narrowed his eyes, his scrutinizing gaze sweeping intentionally or otherwise over her soft, tender lips, igniting a nameless fury in his chest.
He spoke coldly, "Secretary Wei, as a boss, I never interfere with an employee's private life, but please tell your boyfriend to exercise some restraint!"
Wei Yang’s heart jolted. She looked up at Shen Cenzhi instinctively.
As her eyes met his deep, slightly mocking gaze, the tips of her ears began to burn, the flush spreading all the way down to her fair neck.
Shen Cenzhi had seen the wound at the corner of her mouth, and he had misunderstood.
Wei Yang offered no explanation, simply nodding submissively. "I understand."
Shen Cenzhi: "It would be better if you truly understood, rather than just brushing me off."
Wei Yang tightened her fingertips, bowing her head even lower, much like a timid quail.
A flash of derisive light crossed Shen Cenzhi's eyes, and he sneered inwardly.
Only a few years had passed, yet that once arrogant and proud young lady had actually become like this!
Wei Yang, unaware of his thoughts, returned to her desk and quickly immersed herself in work.
"Secretary Wei, it is my mother’s birthday; go and prepare a gift for me," a cold voice dropped from above.
Wei Yang stood up immediately, accepting the task respectfully. "May I ask what kind of gift the Madam prefers?"
Shen Cenzhi: "Use your own judgment."
Wei Yang: "???"
How am I supposed to use my own judgment?!
Collecting her thoughts, Wei Yang gathered the courage to ask, "Mr. Shen, could you provide a general range? Otherwise, it will be very difficult for me to handle."
Shen Cenzhi arched an eyebrow, looking at her with a blank expression. "If you cannot even handle a small task like this, you may resign now."
Her fingers, hanging at her sides, gripped tightly. Suppressing the bitterness in her heart, Wei Yang curved her lips into a perfectly measured smile. She said, "Mr. Shen, I will go prepare it now. I certainly won't let you or the Madam down."
...
Leaving the company, she found it was pouring with rain. Dark clouds blotted out the sky; though it was afternoon, the light was as dim as night, and the thick, gloomy atmosphere was washed away by the downpour, leaving the world looking blurred.
Wei Yang stood by the roadside trying to hail a taxi.
After much effort, a vacant cab finally approached, only to be snatched up by a man who got there first. She felt utterly helpless, her eyes filled with frustration.
She had no choice but to keep waiting.
Suddenly, a black Maybach pulled up in front of her.
The driver's door opened, and Li Cheng stepped out holding a black umbrella. He said politely, "Secretary Wei, Mr. Shen would like you to get in the car."
Wei Yang froze. Is Shen Cenzhi in the car?
She didn't really want to get in, but in the torrential rain, getting a taxi was nearly impossible.
After a moment of hesitation, she had no choice but to pull the door open and sit inside. "Brother Li, please take me to Taikoo Li," Wei Yang said, no longer standing on ceremony.
