Chapter 5 She Was Hired
Shen Cenzhi was flattered, his ears flushing red. "You—you look beautiful today, too! Like a princess."
"Like one? I am one." The girl thought to herself.
Recalling her plan, she curled her lips in triumph. Putting on a coy, shy expression, she fixed her clear, bright eyes directly on him. "Brother Cenzhi, do you... do you have a girlfriend?"
"No," Shen Cenzhi replied.
"Brother Cenzhi, you're so handsome, why don't you have a girlfriend?" the girl asked, feigning curiosity.
Shen Cenzhi explained, "I haven't met the right person yet."
"Brother Cenzhi, then don't find one for now. When I grow up, I'll be your girlfriend, okay?" The girl appeared innocent, yet a flicker of cunning calculation darted through her eyes.
Shen Cenzhi froze, the tips of his ears turning beet red, though he tried his best to maintain his composure.
Before he could respond, the girl stood on her tiptoes as if to kiss him, but she suddenly lost her footing and looked as though she were about to fall. Panicked, Shen Cenzhi reached out to catch her.
"You scoundrel, what have you done to Yangyang?"
A sharp, piercing voice rang out, instantly drawing a crowd of onlookers. Shen Cenzhi was visibly flustered as he hurriedly released Wei Yang. Wei Yang covered her face and wept incessantly, refusing to say a word.
Wei’s father dealt Shen Cenzhi a solid slap, and Wei Ting, utterly disillusioned with him, had Shen Cenzhi expelled from the Wei family banquet.

Since that day, she had never seen Shen Cenzhi again.
Thinking of this, despite her inner resistance, Wei Yang steeled herself and walked forward. She needed this job far too much.
"Hello everyone, my name is Wei Yang..."
The HR interviewer asked a few casual questions before telling her to go home and wait for news. Wei Yang lowered her eyes, murmured a word of thanks, and rose to leave.
Just as she stepped out the door, she heard someone call her name from behind: "Miss Wei!"
Wei Yang paused, her spine instinctively straightening as she slowly turned around. Before she could speak, the owner of the voice continued: "Can you start work tomorrow? Is that a problem?"
She froze, her raven-black lashes fluttering as she stared at the man nearby in astonishment. How could he possibly hire her? Shouldn't he be seeking revenge? Shouldn't he be here to laugh at her misfortune?
"Miss Wei, this is our President Shen, and it is his secretary position you are applying for," the HR interviewer said.
Suppressing her panic, Wei Yang lowered her gaze, hiding her eyes, and replied, "I have no problem with that."
...
Emerging from the S Group building, she took a deep breath, much like a fish gasping for air on the verge of death.
***
Wei Yang had never imagined that the big boss of the S Group would be Shen Cenzhi.
Over the past two years, two of the most dazzling new stars had risen in the business world of Jiangcheng: one was Xie Yanli, the sole heir to the prestigious Xie family, and the other was the founder of the S Group. The former was a well-known scion of a prominent family, while the latter had always remained a mystery. He never accepted media interviews and was extremely low-profile in his personal dealings, which was why few people knew his true identity.
Yet, she never could have guessed that this man would be Shen Cenzhi—the impoverished student she had once played for a fool.
A black Maybach pulled up in front of her. The window rolled down slowly. A gentle, composed, and handsome face intruded upon Wei Yang's vision without warning. Her heart skipped a beat, and she instinctively wanted to flee.
But she was stopped in her tracks: "If you don't want to lose this job, get in the car!"
Closing her eyes tightly for a moment, Wei Yang lowered her head, her soft, red lips curving into a beautiful arc. She looked obedient and submissive.
