Chapter 3: As If It Were Planned
It turned out that they had gathered to welcome Zhao Wenqian back from abroad.
Wei Yang happened to look up and unexpectedly met a pair of dark, profound black eyes, cold and silent like an abyss.
Startled, she quickly lowered her gaze and lifted the full glass of wine before her, drinking it down to conceal her surprise.
A sudden wave of unease stirred within her. She did not want Xie Yanli to misunderstand.
A man like Xie Yanli would never let anyone off easily if they crossed his line.
Wei Yang regretted her presence here, but leaving now would seem deliberate.
After hesitating, she decided to sit quietly in the corner, feigning indifference.
This circle was always profit-driven, and with Zhao Wenqian present, no one would dare approach Wei Yang.
She sat quietly in the corner, occasionally accompanied by Zhao Yunkai.
Later, Zhao Yunkai, drunk, clung to her persistently. “Yangyang, I like you. I’ve liked you for a long time. Will you be my girlfriend?”
As soon as he said this, someone excitedly cheered, “Say yes! Say yes!”
It seemed all planned.
Wei Yang’s expression darkened, her brows knitting slightly. She despised being pressured like this.
Moreover, someone would surely oppose it.
If she agreed to be Zhao Yunkai’s girlfriend, then every time she saw Xie Yanli, wouldn’t she have to call him brother-in-law? For a hypocritical man like him, that would be unimaginable!
After a long pause, Wei Yang patiently soothed Zhao Yunkai. “Zhao Yunkai, stop fooling around! You’re drunk.”
“I’m not drunk!” Zhao Yunkai hugged her tightly. “Yangyang, I really like you.”
“Wei Yang, just say yes to Kai! He truly likes you.”
Onlookers, unfazed by the trouble it might cause, eagerly egged her on, as if wanting to roast her alive.
Wei Yang tried to push Zhao Yunkai away, but he remained unmoving, still urging her to agree.
“Wenqian’s tired. You all keep playing; I’ll take her back first.”
A man’s cold, deep voice cut through the noisy crowd.
Though soft, it landed heavily like a crushing weight.
Everyone instantly fell silent, even Zhao Yunkai dared not speak further. They all stood up to watch them leave.
Wei Yang no longer dared stay, fearing Zhao Yunkai’s endless persistence. She quickly found an excuse to leave.
The night was cold as water, carrying the bone-chilling chill of early spring, weaving through the city’s corners.
Wei Yang stood by the roadside, waiting for a car.
A sudden gust made her shiver; she hurriedly wrapped her coat tighter.
Under the shade of trees across the street, a golden Continental car sat silently like a crouching leopard.
The man’s eyes were cold and clear; through the window, they fixed on her delicate, radiant face.
The woman seemed bored, lightly kicking pebbles on the ground, occasionally glancing toward the approaching car.
After a while, he drove away.
Wei Yang got out of the taxi and was just about to reach the elevator when a strong arm pulled her into the emergency passage.
The man pinned her firmly against the wall.
Though the light was dim, she recognized the face clearly.
Xie Yanli.
Wei Yang frowned, uncomfortable against the cold, hard wall behind her. She gritted her teeth and said, “Young Master Xie, we’re done with each other!” Those were his words.
“Done?” The man’s low, hoarse voice carried an indescribable sarcasm, striking sharply in her ear.
Wei Yang bit her lip hard, a trace of fear in her eyes but still resolute. “Yes! Done! You said it yourself. Xie Yanli, we’re done.”
As her words fell, the man suddenly lowered his head, his cold lips covering hers.
Wei Yang was stunned, her mind instantly blank.
