Chapter One Hundred and Three: A Di’s Choice
The referee’s warning did little to cool the hooligan’s brazenness. He kept making obscene whistles at her, brazenly disrupting the match, until the staff sternly reminded him to mind his conduct.
“Now, the official round is about to begin... five, four...”
“Nice figure, little beauty!”
Instead of heeding the warning, he only grew more shameless, openly leering at her with vulgar eyes and speech. She had rarely ever held her temper in check, but this man was simply too vile.
“What is there to compare? Tell you what, I’ll give you a choice. I won’t hit you; just admit defeat. After the match, come with me, and you’ll live a life of comfort and luxury...”
He swallowed hard as he said it. If not for the setting, he would likely have thrown himself at her the next instant.
She let out a cold snort, the tip of her tongue pressing against the back of her teeth. So she had not met some good-hearted soul after all, but a filthy creep.
“Well, little beauty?”
Seeing that she did not answer, he assumed she was considering his offer.
The staff warned him again, threatening to disqualify him if he kept it up. Only then did he restrain himself somewhat.
At the same time, the staff also respected her wishes.
She had the right to withdraw on her own.
The staff looked toward her, silent and brooding until now, and asked, “Do you choose to withdraw?”
She slowly lifted her head, the corners of her mouth curling. “No.”
“So the little beauty has some temper. This old brother likes that. In that case, don’t blame me for not showing you any tenderness...”
The moment he finished speaking, laughter rippled up from below the stage.
Even kindness and delicacy could be mispronounced? Clearly he was just an uneducated street thug who had made it through the first round of the arena by knowing a few moves.
What a pity the guard selection valued ability alone and never screened out those of rotten character.
“What are you laughing at?!” Seeing the laughter below, he bellowed at the audience and then shot an angry glare toward the staff. “What are you standing there for? Start the match already!”
She glanced at the man, who was hopping in rage at the crowd’s sneers, and frowned slightly, knowing full well this match would be no easy thing.
Thugs like him might lack refinement, but they were certainly used to fighting.
Her odds were not good.
“Final warning to Zhang Dong: the match begins now!”
The staff announced the start with forced patience.
He leered at her clenched fist, poised to strike, and grinned until his eyes nearly vanished. She launched forward, only for him to see through her move; he dodged and, in the same motion, could not resist grazing her hand.
Jiang Miaomiao’s fists clenched beneath the stands.
Even after she was so blatantly groped, the staff still said nothing.
“What a disgusting piece of trash? They actually let this kind of garbage slip into the selection match?!” Jiang Miaomiao’s brows knit tightly in fury. She wanted nothing more than to storm up and teach Zhang Dong a proper lesson on her behalf.
Qin Sheng was also frowning hard, though she remained calmer than Jiang Miaomiao and Chu Xingyu. For now it was still the arena match, and fortunately Zhang Dong could not go too far.
At most they could only fume helplessly below the stage; there was no way to rush up there.
“Stay calm first. Let me think of something,” Qin Sheng said quickly, steadying both of them as they were about to charge forward.
“He’s bullying her right in front of us. We can’t let Zhang Dong get away with it!”
Chu Xingyu nodded furiously. “Wait until he gets off the stage. I’ll beat him to death!”
The two of them obviously could not stay calm, but at least they were still able to sit there and force themselves to settle down.
Qin Sheng glanced at the stage, then rose from her seat and moved to a spot out of the way.
If it really came to it, she would use the spatial transfer technique.
And if necessary, she still had her grandfather’s personally made knockout powder. Enough to make everyone here suffer for it.
After being grabbed twice, she finally could not stand the nausea any longer and ceased her attack, widening the distance between them.
She glanced at the place he had touched her.
Disgusting.
Seeing her retreat so far, he thought she had changed her mind and called out, “You’ve reconsidered? Agreed to follow your old brother and live the good life?”
“Get lost!” Her eyes were full of loathing. She wiped the hand he had touched against her clothes with obvious disgust, not stopping until the pale skin had been rubbed red.
Seeing that she still refused to submit, he grew visibly more impatient.
His words turned even more filthy.
“Such a troublesome bitch. It’s your good fortune that I’m touching you!”
“So disgusting!” She could no longer endure sparring with this creep. Taking advantage of his shock at her resistance, she darted at him like a spinning top and, with all her force, kicked hard between his legs, right at his weak point.
“Aaagh!”
A scream like that of a slaughtered pig erupted from the stage.
She did not seem satisfied yet and was prepared to land another kick.
But Zhang Dong realized her intent and, enduring the pain, seized the foot that was about to strike his weak point again.
“You bitch! You actually dared kick me there! You’re dead!” Agony in his lower body drenched his forehead with cold sweat, the veins on his brow bulging instantly, while the scar on his face made him look even more ferocious.
Her tightly clenched fists trembled uncontrollably.
She tried to break free, but that foot felt as though it had been weighted with lead and could not escape his grip.
With a savage grin, Zhang Dong hurled her away.
A heavy impact rang out from the stage.
Jiang Miaomiao and Chu Xingyu shot to their feet at once. “Her!”
Equally shaken was Qin Sheng, who had been preparing nearby for a long time.
Jiang Miaomiao and Chu Xingyu tried to rush over, but they were stopped.
Everyone who entered the arena match had already signed the life-and-death waiver.
No matter what happened, even if one died on the stage, it was a choice made by the contestant.
He had not thrown her off the platform, but into another area of the ring, clearly unwilling to eliminate her so quickly.
He could not bear the pain in his groin and was certainly going to make her suffer.
Qin Sheng had already taken the knockout powder from her spatial storage. Just as she was about to scatter it, she saw her stagger to her feet.
Though blood had already spilled from the corner of her mouth, her first reaction was still to shake her head toward the shadows where Qin Sheng stood.
When she was thrown away, she had seen Qin Sheng.
She did not want to ruin Qin Sheng’s path because of herself.
Qin Sheng struggled for a long while before finally putting the powder away. Privately, she did not want her to be hurt, but this was, after all, her own match.
Since she had chosen to continue, then as her master she would naturally respect that decision.
Qin Sheng returned the item to her spatial storage and went back to her seat.
“Shengsheng, are we just going to watch her keep getting hurt?” Jiang Miaomiao saw her spit up a mouthful of blood, and her heart ached so much that tears were nearly falling uncontrollably.
Qin Sheng frowned deeply and shook her head.
“Respect her choice.”
A quiet sentence from Qin Sheng was enough for Jiang Miaomiao to understand: this was her own decision.
But human hearts are flesh and blood.
The pain could not even be put into words.
“Still, this cannot simply be left alone.” Qin Sheng’s gaze gradually settled on Zhang Dong, who was weaving unsteadily toward her on the stage. Her eyes were full of bloodlust and ice.
Since he had laid hands on one of her own, there was only one road left for him: death.
She casually wiped the blood from the corner of her mouth and looked again toward Zhang Dong, who was raging not far away.
“Too bad I didn’t cripple you completely, you filthy creep!” she shouted at him viciously, her back straight despite the injury.
“You have to die today!” Zhang Dong felt his lower body growing numb. Still, for a man who had trained in martial arts, the pain was bearable.
This arrogant little wench had to die today.
She sneered contemptuously. “Then come on, you castrated eunuch!”
That single insult seemed to ignite Zhang Dong’s fury completely. With a roar like a madman, he clenched his fist and rushed at her at once, the first blow aimed straight at her nose.
Her reaction was swift enough. She raised her arm to block it.
But the disparity in strength was too great. Though she saved her nose, her arm was injured.
He did not stop. Blow after blow came crashing down on her. She dodged what she could; what she could not, she took on her arms.
After several exchanges, she could scarcely feel her arms anymore.
The pain had gone numb.
“This is all you’ve got? Pathetic!” She was thoroughly enraged now. Even if it meant harming the enemy by a thousand at the cost of eight hundred of her own, she would teach that filthy bastard Zhang Dong a lesson.
He glared at her savagely, then put all his strength into one brutal strike to her abdomen.
With a muffled groan, she was knocked out of the arena’s boundary.
Zhang Dong won the match, but he had also lost half his life; in the course of attacking her, he had taken one solid counterblow from her as well.
The woman was both vicious and precise, striking directly at the target.
Unable to bear the pain any longer, Zhang Dong finally collapsed unconscious on the stage.
Both fighters fainted there, and the next moment they were sent to the hospital in the safety zone.
Chu Xingyu and Qin Sheng had already finished their matches; only Jiang Miaomiao remained.
Ever since the matter with Mei Shen, Qin Sheng would never allow another one of them to compete while the others were absent, so she had sent Chu Xingyu to the hospital in the safety zone to look after her.
She stayed behind to wait for Jiang Miaomiao to finish.
Qin Sheng’s face had already grown very dark, her whole body radiating hostility.
Jiang Miaomiao kept telling herself not to be affected, but she had seen what just happened to her. How could she not be heartbroken or upset?
Qin Sheng seemed to sense that Jiang Miaomiao’s state of mind was unstable. Pressing her dry lips together, she reined in some of the killing intent around her.
“Miaomiao, don’t think nonsense. Just focus on your match. She’ll be fine; these are only surface injuries.”
Qin Sheng gently patted her on the back, trying to help calm her down.
Jiang Miaomiao nodded. Before she could answer, the call for her match rang out.
“I’m going to the match, Shengsheng.”
Qin Sheng nodded. The moment Jiang Miaomiao rose to leave, Qin Sheng reached out and held her hand.
“No matter what, don’t get hurt.”
