Chapter 120: He Can Be Completely Trusted

"With me here, there's no need to worry."
Song Qing'an spoke softly, instantly smoothing away the countless anxieties and fears in Qin Sheng's heart.
It seemed that somewhere along the way, she had unknowingly begun to trust this young man whose looks were anything but ordinary.
Qin Sheng nodded, lowering her gaze with a light chuckle. She believed that Song Qing'an would do exactly as he said, and she also believed that she herself would trust Song Qing'an.
"How long was I asleep?" Qin Sheng suddenly remembered that there was still a mountain of matters awaiting her back in the zombie forest. What if someone snuck in and raided the place while she was gone?
The moment the thought crossed her mind, Qin Sheng wished she could fly straight back to the zombie forest from the Casual Shop.
"Three hours. Don't worry, Xun Feng is there." Song Qing'an had known from the start that Qin Sheng would wake up worrying about her friends and the little makeshift camp she had set up.
Hearing that Xun Feng had stayed behind, Qin Sheng finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Not to mention anything else, with Xun Feng's strength alone, even a fight against the most powerful Shen Shi would be child's play—let alone those petty little troublemakers trying to cause mischief.
Qin Sheng nodded in satisfaction, leaning leisurely against the edge of the bed. Gone was the nervous, worried look from just moments ago.
Song Qing'an noticed how Qin Sheng relaxed the instant she learned Xun Feng was in the zombie forest. A strange feeling stirred in his chest, and seeing her so pleased, he couldn't suppress his curiosity any longer.
"You trust Xun Feng that much?" Song Qing'an's brows knitted together, as if the moment Qin Sheng nodded, he would immediately summon Xun Feng back.
Qin Sheng found it somewhat amusing. She had no idea where this jealousy of Song Qing'an's was coming from.
"I do trust him quite a bit." As if oblivious to Song Qing'an's darkening expression, Qin Sheng pretended not to notice anything and replied with a calm, indifferent air.
True to form, Song Qing'an's face darkened another shade, and the hand resting by his leg had clenched into a fist at some point.
Qin Sheng couldn't help but laugh at the sight. Hearing her laugh, Song Qing'an stared at her with a puzzled look.
Qin Sheng gave a light cough, fixing her eyes on Song Qing'an's and asked with a deliberately teasing smile, "Why are you so tense? Could it be you're jealous?"
The moment the word "jealous" left her lips, Song Qing'an instinctively opened his mouth to refute it, without even stopping to think about why he was so tense in the first place.
"Jealous of what? I'm just worried... worried something might happen to one of my own men, that's all. Don't forget, Xun Feng is one of my capable subordinates." Song Qing'an explained in a hurry, but seeing Qin Sheng raise an eyebrow at him, he knew full well she didn't believe a word of it.
Qin Sheng's gaze never left Song Qing'an for even a second, as if she were trying to read the true thoughts hidden beneath his surface.
Honestly, the jealousy comment had just been a random remark on her part.
Besides, the two of them were just friends at best—buddies, even. What was there for buddies to be jealous about?
"Alright, alright, no need to explain. I know, I know."
Song Qing'an was about to continue when Qin Sheng cut him off with a laugh.
"I understand, I understand it all..." Qin Sheng waved her hand as she spoke, as if she already knew everything.
Without realizing it, the tips of Song Qing'an's ears had grown even redder, as if his thoughts had been seen through. Listening to Qin Sheng go on, he couldn't help but grow nervous.
"You... what do you understand?" Song Qing'an's palms clenched slightly as he asked Qin Sheng cautiously.
Qin Sheng clearly hadn't noticed anything unusual about Song Qing'an. She blinked her eyes and said lightly, "Aren't you worried that if you leave Xun Feng all alone there, he might get jealous?"
Song Qing'an, who had harbored a faint hope that Qin Sheng might actually speak her true feelings, heard her calmly explain her reasoning and his face turned visibly darker.
Song Qing'an: "..."
Forget it. He had overestimated the girl's understanding, especially when it came to matters of the heart.
Seeing that Song Qing'an remained silent for a long while, Qin Sheng unconsciously grew a little nervous herself, sitting up especially straight and well-behaved as she waited for him to speak.
Song Qing'an helplessly pressed a hand to his forehead and said softly, "Believe whatever you like."
Qin Sheng blinked her eyes and said nothing.

Then Song Qing'an continued, "It doesn't matter. From now on, you only need to trust me."
Those words kept repeating themselves in Qin Sheng's mind and echoing in her ears.
He said that from now on, she only needed to trust him alone.
Was that really possible?
In this life, Qin Sheng had been cautious from the very beginning. She had never truly, genuinely trusted a single person. She believed that as long as she held no expectations for anyone, she would never be disappointed.
And all the things from her past life would never happen again.
But hearing such words again, it was hard not to feel a stir in her heart.
Qin Sheng had to admit—those words from Song Qing'an had genuinely moved her.
To only trust him alone.
Perhaps someday she would.
Qin Sheng wasn't sure.
Seeming to notice that Qin Sheng had drifted off and missed what he had said, Song Qing'an gave a light cough to pull her back to the present.
"What I mean is, you can always trust me."
Song Qing'an rephrased this time, and the possessiveness in his words had clearly receded. It seemed he had sensed the unreachable barrier in Qin Sheng's heart.
Qin Sheng was momentarily stunned, then a smile took over her face. "Okay."
Hearing Qin Sheng's answer, Song Qing'an slowly unclenched his tightly balled fist, revealing a thin layer of fine sweat at the center of his palm.
"Lu Shenchen is mixing the medicine. I'll go check on how it's coming along. You rest for a while."
With that, Song Qing'an helped Qin Sheng lie back down on the bed, then pulled the door shut and headed up to the second floor.
He happened to run into Lu Shenchen, who was just coming down.
Seeing Song Qing'an, Lu Shenchen smiled and said, "I was just looking for you. I've finished developing the medicine—you can give it to Qin Sheng in a bit. It won't completely suppress another backlash of her ability, but it'll prevent a repeat of what happened this time."
Song Qing'an took the medicine Lu Shenchen handed him and turned to go back downstairs to give it to Qin Sheng.
But he hadn't taken two steps before Lu Shenchen called out to him again.
"Oh, and Song Qing'an, any progress on the positive factor?" Lu Shenchen's expression visibly tensed, as if the positive factor he mentioned was of the utmost importance.
Song Qing'an let out a soft sigh, and Lu Shenchen could guess the gist of it.
"So the third piece still hasn't appeared?" Lu Shenchen, who rarely frowned, knitted his brows as well—clearly this was a serious matter.
Song Qing'an nodded.
He had already collected the first two pieces of the positive factor, but the third had yet to make its appearance.
"We'll just have to wait. There's nothing else we can do. But you need to be even more careful about the other side. If the Wind Listening Pavilion finds out you're collecting the positive factor, the trouble would be considerable..."
Song Qing'an naturally understood the gravity of the positive factor. If not for it, he wouldn't have come to this continent at all.
"I know. Don't worry, I'll keep an eye out."
Lu Shenchen nodded, then asked with a hint of suspicion, "You don't think that person from the Wind Listening Pavilion would secretly send someone to keep an eye on you while you're here?"
Lu Shenchen had considered this question before, but it seemed the Wind Listening Pavilion was quite permissive with their young master.
Though "permissive" could also be described another way—having a title without any real power.
Song Qing'an couldn't help but let out a bitter laugh. "I'm just a wandering playboy. The Wind Listening Pavilion would be only too glad if I never went back."

"Then why does your uncle keep asking you to come back every few days?" Lu Shenchen followed up on Song Qing'an's words.
At the mention of his uncle, Song Qing'an's expression turned noticeably more serious. What was more, it seemed he held considerable dislike and resentment toward this uncle of his.
"Heh, it's nothing but a show for others to see."
Song Qing'an said no more and walked off toward Qin Sheng's room.
Leaving Lu Shenchen standing in place, shaking his head helplessly.
"Back already?" Qin Sheng had mostly recovered by now, and had just been thinking of getting up to return to the zombie forest when Song Qing'an knocked lightly on the door and came in.
"Lu Shenchen has finished preparing the medicine. Remember to take it on time." Song Qing'an set the medicine down on Qin Sheng's table and, without lingering, turned to leave.
Qin Sheng seemed to sense something amiss in Song Qing'an's demeanor—he appeared rather agitated.
For some reason, Qin Sheng called out to him.
"Wait."
Song Qing'an's brows were still tightly knitted, but he patiently asked Qin Sheng whether she was feeling unwell somewhere.
Qin Sheng pursed her lips and said softly, "How about we grab some barbecue or hotpot or something?"
Qin Sheng could tell that Song Qing'an's mood had been unstable ever since he stepped out earlier, but he had been suppressing it the whole time.
She had no experience when it came to comforting people, but eating did help ease one's emotions—though she wasn't sure whether it would have any effect on Song Qing'an.
Song Qing'an seemed caught off guard by Qin Sheng's sudden request. He said helplessly, "You're not in a condition to eat greasy, heavy food right now."
Hearing this, Qin Sheng unconsciously pouted, then raised a finger in a beseeching gesture, holding it up as if to signal "just one." "Just one meal. I won't eat too much."
Song Qing'an shook his head helplessly and motioned for Qin Sheng to follow him out.
Upon getting Song Qing'an's approval, Qin Sheng quickly scrambled off the bed and followed him toward the kitchen.
Qin Sheng had left quite a bit of hotpot base behind last time, and there happened to be some vegetables and meat in the kitchen as well.
A hotpot meal would be perfect.
Within a few minutes, Song Qing'an had everything prepared. Considering Qin Sheng's current physical condition, he made a yin-yang split pot.
The aroma of hotpot had barely drifted upstairs when Lu Shenchen came running down, drawn by the smell.
"Hotpot, is it? I'm in!"
Qin Sheng smiled and invited Lu Shenchen to sit down.
The three of them gathered around the hotpot, the atmosphere warm and harmonious.
Having spent days on end in the zombie forest, Qin Sheng had been eating nothing but compressed biscuits to avoid drawing attention. A steaming hotpot like this was something she truly hadn't enjoyed in a long while.
Before long, quite a bit of meat had made its way down her stomach.
"Oh, right. Tomorrow morning, I still need to head back to the zombie forest." Once the hotpot meal was finished, Qin Sheng brought up the plans she had made.
Song Qing'an was a foodie at heart, and after the hotpot meal his mood had visibly improved. He had always supported Qin Sheng's decisions.
"Thank you, Boss Lu, for putting me up for another night."
