Xiao Nuo, who was beside Qin Sheng, naturally noticed that her companion’s thoughts were somewhat distracted. Much of it, in fact, was because of the man who wasn’t present in that seat. Xiao Nuo clearly remembered the message Song Qing’an had asked her to pass along before leaving, though subconsciously, she didn’t want Qin Sheng to pay too much attention to this man. Everyone knew the Young Master of the Listening Wind Pavilion was a mere figurehead, lazy and utterly lacking ambition—a dissipated playboy indulging in wine and women. Yet, to Xiao Nuo, perhaps Song Qing’an was not truly such a person. If he merely wanted everyone to see him as that kind of man, it only revealed his cunning and depth of character even more—besides, Listening Wind Pavilion was no peaceful place. Xiao Nuo wished to keep Qin Sheng away from any entanglement with those at Listening Wind Pavilion, besides, she didn’t truly believe Qin Sheng would ever journey to the otherworldly continent.

Seeing Qin Sheng still absent-minded, Xiao Nuo hesitated for a moment before gently tapping Qin Sheng’s hand to bring her back to the present. “Sister, Brother Song said he had something urgent and left early, and asked me to pass this on. I just remembered now.” Qin Sheng was momentarily stunned but, seeing Xiao Nuo’s slightly guilty expression, soothed her gently: “It’s alright, it’s nothing important.” “I’m glad you’re not upset with me,” Xiao Nuo replied.

Qin Sheng’s eyes grew colder. She had thought Song Qing’an was just shy and unwilling to meet her, but it turned out he had simply run off. So, she was left here to perform a one-woman show? Qin Sheng’s irritation grew, and gradually her appetite waned. “You all eat, I’m going to rest first,” she said, then left the small kitchen. Those around looked at Qin Sheng’s low spirits with some concern. “What’s wrong? The lady seems down,” someone remarked. “Probably just the pressure. This time our captain is leading the whole team,” Yu Yong nodded firmly. Everyone agreed—this mission was both a challenge and a heavy burden for Qin Sheng.

“Our captain is under so much pressure, we can’t slack off either. After dinner, we’ll have evening training in half an hour,” Wang Qiang announced after a moment’s thought. This time, there were no objections or complaints; everyone knew the task’s difficulty and danger and took it seriously.

After leaving the small kitchen, Qin Sheng didn’t want to rest upstairs. After a moment’s hesitation, she stepped out of the guard troop and somehow found herself at the hospital in the safe zone. Since she was there, Qin Sheng decided to visit Shen Shi, whom she hadn’t seen since the day on the Death and Life Platform. With that thought, she entered, inquired about Shen Shi’s ward, and made her way upstairs with ease.

Coincidentally, Shen Shi’s ward was the very one where she had first met him and staged a scene outside. Back then, she was looking for Lin Xing, and Shen Shi was still with Guo Jun’s group. Now, when she came again, Shen Shi had become a member of her own guard squad. Qin Sheng knocked twice, and Shen Shi’s familiar voice came from inside.

“Why are you here so late?” Shen Shi glanced outside at the darkening sky, put down the book in his hand, and looked at Qin Sheng. Qin Sheng sat in a chair nearby, noticing Shen Shi’s good complexion, teasing, “Am I unwelcome at this hour?”

Shen Shi smiled faintly, knowing she was joking, and answered patiently, “How could that be? I always welcome my captain whenever she comes.” Shen Shi seemed much more cheerful than before; Qin Sheng was sure it wasn’t just her imagination. Seeing Qin Sheng staring at her, Shen Shi chuckled, touched her face, and asked, “Is there something on my face?”

Qin Sheng snapped back to reality, shook her head with a smile, and said, “You’re much more cheerful than before.” Shen Shi didn’t deny it, perhaps aware herself that her personality had softened since the day on the Death and Life Platform.

As the saying goes, only the one who tied the bell can untie it. The loss of Shen Shi’s parents had dealt her a heavy blow, causing the chest pains to stem from psychological torment. After the Death and Life Platform, it seemed Shen Shi had come to some realizations.

“I used to think the chest pains when I thought of my parents were normal, a way to deepen my memories. But after the platform, my thoughts changed. Maybe the pains are how I remember them, not some punishment from them,” Shen Shi spoke more than she realized, wanting to share all her thoughts with Qin Sheng so she wouldn’t have to worry so much next time.

Shen Shi raised her eyes to meet Qin Sheng’s, and for a fleeting moment, her gaze brimmed with tenderness before quickly looking away, as if afraid Qin Sheng might detect the unusual emotion in her eyes. “That’s good. Since the pain was made by others, you shouldn’t bear it alone. You should make them taste the same bitterness,” Qin Sheng said firmly. She had never forgotten what she wanted to do or whom she wanted to take revenge on.

Since Shen Shi had joined her team, Qin Sheng hadn’t paid much attention to Qin Mengchun. Qin Mengchun didn’t cause waves, but it was uncertain if she might corrupt others—like Yang Yao. Qin Sheng recalled Yang Yao was in Team One, Guo Jun’s group. Perhaps Guo Ting had pushed her along behind the scenes. Shen Mei, though full of resentment, had never sought revenge on Yang Yao, merely feeling she had been unlucky in whom she met.

“Don’t worry, I’ll avenge my own grudge,” Shen Shi said, clenching her fists tightly, veins prominent as she thought of Guo Jun.

Qin Sheng nodded in satisfaction, stood up, and said, “Tomorrow I’ll lead the team out of the safe zone to look for supplies. If you want to come, be sure to return early to pack.”

“Leading the team out of the safe zone?” Shen Shi frowned slightly. Usually, such tasks were assigned to Guo Jun or the more experienced guards. Why was their newly formed team entrusted with this mission? Searching outside the safe zone was no simple task; there was always the risk that one or two wouldn’t return. Their team was still in its formative stage—this mission was a hot potato.

After a few seconds’ hesitation, Shen Shi kept her thoughts to herself.

Qin Sheng knew what Shen Shi was considering. “There’s no retreat; it’s a fight to the death. Everything depends on your heart,” Qin Sheng said, understanding the difficulty and not wanting to pressure anyone, then left.

Shen Shi glanced at Qin Sheng’s departing figure, lips pressed into a straight line.

After leaving the hospital in the safe zone, Qin Sheng slipped into her space in the darkness. Though unfamiliar with other places, she knew exactly where Team One and Qin Mengchun were—perfect for a little nighttime amusement.

The space’s power was indeed formidable; when Qin Sheng emerged again, she was at Qin Mengchun’s room. Since Yang Yao had joined Team One, Qin Mengchun now lived alone in a single room.

Qin Sheng leaned by the balcony window, perfectly positioned to observe Qin Mengchun’s every move.

Qin Mengchun paced inside for a long while until a knock interrupted her. The visitor wasn’t the one she was waiting for.

Qin Sheng concealed her presence with her abilities, quietly savoring the unfolding drama.

“Li Chengbin? What are you doing here?” Qin Mengchun’s expression darkened instantly upon seeing her ex-boyfriend at the door.

“Mengchun, do you really want to break up with me?” Li Chengbin slurred slightly, clearly drunk, though no one knew where he had found the alcohol.

Li Chengbin had no use for Qin Mengchun; they broke up after the arena match. He had tried many times to find her since, but never succeeded.

The apocalypse brought immense pressure; abandoned by his sole emotional anchor, Li Chengbin quickly fell into decay. Even drunk, he sought out Qin Mengchun.

“You’ve been drinking?” Qin Mengchun wrinkled her brow in displeasure, smelling the alcohol on him.

“Mengchun, I love you... I can’t forget you...” Li Chengbin’s words were slurred.

Qin Mengchun grew impatient and bluntly said, “Haven’t I told you we’re broken up? Don’t come looking for me anymore, okay?!”

Before Li Chengbin could react, Qin Mengchun slammed the door shut.

Li Chengbin was once again rejected, stomping his feet outside the door for a long time before stumbling away in tears.

Inside, Qin Mengchun seemed to be waiting for someone else, occasionally checking her reflection in the mirror, sometimes touching up her lipstick brought in secretly. She was a completely different person from when she had met Li Chengbin.

Qin Sheng smiled faintly; Qin Mengchun had clearly found her next target.

Honestly, Qin Sheng was curious who this new man could be to make Qin Mengchun so quickly discard Li Chengbin. In the previous life, Qin Mengchun had never parted with Li Chengbin; she wasn’t a decisive person.

This new person must have far more utility than the foolish Li Chengbin.

After a moment’s thought, Qin Mengchun’s door was knocked upon again.

Qin Sheng had been hiding her presence with her powers all along, so she had no fear of being discovered.

She had entered the space mainly to avoid seeing Qin Mengchun’s face, fearing she might lose control and strangle her.

But since Qin Mengchun was not yet dead, Qin Sheng could only endure.

When the doorbell rang again, Qin Mengchun immediately wore a sweet smile and opened the door.

Seeing the visitor, Qin Sheng’s lips twitched involuntarily.

“You finally came! I’ve been waiting so long,” Qin Mengchun said coquettishly, stamping her foot with a shy expression.

“It’s because of matters in the team that I’m late. Don’t blame me,” Guo Jun said with lecherous eyes, eyeing Qin Mengchun’s proud figure and caressing her cheek.

Seeing Guo Jun was the one meeting Qin Mengchun, Qin Sheng almost retched.

Guo Jun’s lecherous nature was well known; he had previously made moves on Jiang Miaomiao. It was shocking he would even go after his niece’s friend.

Or rather, Qin Mengchun was interested in Guo Ting’s uncle.

Qin Sheng admired Qin Mengchun’s audacity—Guo Jun was a man well past fifty, and the love in her eyes didn’t seem feigned.

Qin Sheng silently gagged; she could only despise and disrespect these two despicable people.

“Mengmeng, you’ve been waiting anxiously, haven’t you?”

“What do you think...” Qin Mengchun replied.

Then Qin Sheng watched another explicit scene unfold.

When Qin Sheng, disgusted beyond endurance, prepared to leave, the entwined duo finally paused.

“Mengmeng, after some time, I’ll prepare a room for you in the team. You can move in,” Guo Jun said.

Qin Mengchun pretended to be shy, “Isn’t that inappropriate? I’m not part of Team One...”

“You’re not part of Team One, but you’re mine,” Guo Jun domineeringly whispered in her ear.

They resumed their entanglement.

Qin Sheng was speechless. Guo Jun’s age was showing; he stopped after barely two minutes.

“Shouldn’t Tingting be out of the detention center by now?” Qin Mengchun still remembered Guo Ting at this moment, much to Qin Sheng’s surprise.

Guo Jun took a drag of his cigarette and nodded.

“Tingting must have suffered a lot; I feel so sorry for her...” Qin Mengchun hugged Guo Jun, pretending to be sympathetic, even shedding a few fake tears.

Guo Jun comforted her.

“Tingting’s suffering won’t be in vain. When she’s out, she can try to kill Qin Sheng all she wants!”

Qin Sheng, leaning by the window outside, raised an eyebrow disdainfully. Kill her? She was looking forward to it.
