Chapter 28: I Want You to Be My Mother
Jiang Li gritted her teeth in fury at how cruelly Jiang Xue was treating her child. Yet, the undeniable fact remained: the little boy was indeed their son. With Youyou’s fate unknown, she had to find her daughter and secure evidence to punish the wicked.
If Youyou were truly dead...
A wave of overwhelming hatred surged through Jiang Li. If her daughter were gone, she would be sworn enemies with Qin Mu and Jiang Xue for as long as she lived.
"No! Even if you break my legs, I will never call you Mother. You are a bad woman, a vicious woman. I want Youyou’s mother to be my mom. I want the beautiful lady to be my mom. Let me go!"
Jiang Li could no longer hold back. A single glance revealed blood seeping from the little boy’s waist. Despite the child’s desperate struggle, Jiang Xue continued to pull at him relentlessly.
"Let go! There is blood; his wound must have reopened. Jiang Xue, are you truly this child’s birth mother? How can you be so vicious? Are you so desperate to control him that you disregard his life? Qin Mu, are you two colluding, truly wanting to drive this child to his death?"
Qin Mu, who had been standing there in a daze, snapped to attention at Jiang Li’s words. He rushed forward in a rage and shoved Jiang Xue aside with a kick.
"Jinchen, are you alright? Where does it hurt? Tell Daddy." Qin Mu cradled his son, his face filled with anxiety.
Jiang Li felt flustered, looking at the little boy in front of her, completely at a loss. The child, however, pouted, looking incredibly aggrieved. He reached out, looked at Jiang Li, and burst into tears.
"Mommy, Chenchen wants a hug. Mommy, can you please not leave Chenchen behind? Don't go. Chenchen feels like he is going to die. The little sister’s kidney is inside me, and I’m sure she wants a hug from Mommy, too."
No one could resist the heartbreaking cries of a child, and Jiang Li was no exception. She walked a few steps away, then stopped and looked back at the little boy, her own heart twisting in pain. She didn't know why, but she wanted to snatch the boy away, take him somewhere no one could find them, and simply weep. Looking at him, she could not hold back her tears.
Qin Mu could no longer bear it. "Designer Jiang, is your heart truly that cold? My son is crying so bitterly; can you not even give him a hug?" Qin Mu’s own heart ached. With reddened eyes, unable to soothe his son’s pain, he could only beg Jiang Li.
Jiang Li paused, wiped her tears, and turned back to take the child from Qin Mu’s arms.
"Mommy!" Qin Jing Jinchen wrapped his arms tightly around Jiang Li’s neck, the joy of a mother and son reunited evident in his embrace. A faint smile touched his pale face before he fainted from the pain.
Jiang Li was terrified. "Hey, little one, don't scare me! Wake up!"
Jiang Xue was nearing insanity. She clenched her fists, glaring at Jiang Li with bloodthirsty eyes, wishing she could tear her apart. "Jiang Li, you are a jinx, a demon! What did you do to my son? He has fainted! If anything happens to him, I will fight you to the death!"
Jiang Li did not keep her promise; the moment Jiang Xue lunged to grab the boy, she let go. She was afraid of hurting him further. As she watched Jiang Xue storm off with her son, Jiang Li felt a complex mix of emotions. Qin Mu cast a complicated look at Jiang Li before turning and following them to the hospital.
Jiang Li felt a sense of sorrow and helplessness. Just then, Lin Fan approached respectfully. "Miss, there is news about Youyou. The police discovered that she never actually left the hospital that day."
At Lin Fan’s words, a spark of hope ignited in Jiang Li’s heart. She nodded, overjoyed. "I’m going there now. Youyou must be fine. She must be."
Lin Fan nodded. "I hope so. I believe little Youyou will be protected by fate. Also, I was truly stunned just now; the son of President Qin and Miss Jiang seems to trust you so deeply."
Jiang Li’s heart was heavy with complicated feelings. For now, she had to find her daughter. As for Chenchen, she would find time to see him later.
Full of hope, she arrived at the police station, expecting the police to offer a lifeline for Youyou, but...
"Ms. Jiang, we found traces of little Youyou’s blood in the hospital operating room, along with some residual organs."
"Residual organs?" Jiang Li’s eyes widened in disbelief, and she stumbled, nearly collapsing. What had she just heard? That the police had found Youyou’s organs?
The investigator nodded gravely. "Yes, they are organs that perfectly match Youyou’s DNA. It is her heart."
A thunderbolt seemed to strike Jiang Li. She felt as though she were going insane. Youyou’s heart had been found? Was what Chen Shaojie said true? Had Youyou been sold for her organs, and discarded only because the heart was deemed unsuitable?
Her lips trembled violently as she lost control, sweeping everything off the desk. "Impossible! Impossible! How could Chen Shaojie be so wicked? No, I don't believe it! I don't believe my daughter was sold for her organs!"
Lin Fan rushed to steady her, his expression one of shock. Xie Yun, unable to stand, felt her heart breaking at the sight of her daughter’s grief. "How could this happen? Youyou, how can your grandmother go on? How can your birth mother go on? You were so sweet, so well-behaved, so sensible—how could you leave us?" Xie Yun covered her mouth, fearing her own sobbing would only deepen her daughter’s agony.
Jiang Li still refused to believe. "No, I don't believe that is my daughter’s heart. I want to see... I must verify this myself."
The investigator sighed helplessly, wiped his own eyes, and led Jiang Li to another room. "My condolences, Ms. Jiang. These blood-stained cloths and cotton swabs were left behind when the organs were stolen. The DNA test on the heart perfectly matches little Youyou."
"Blech!" Jiang Li tasted something sweet in her mouth, and a spurt of red liquid surged forth. She couldn't tell where the pain was coming from; she only felt as if the sky had collapsed. The hatred she felt for Qin Mu and Jiang Xue poured out like an endless river.
"Qin Mu, Jiang Xue," Jiang Li spat out, her teeth clicking together, "I, Jiang Li, swear that I will be your mortal enemy for the rest of my life!"
Having said this, she lost consciousness. Lin Fan watched with deep worry. As an assistant at the Jiang Group, he had witnessed the sorrow of the Chairman when losing a loved one, and he understood Jiang Li’s pain.
Xie Yun’s eyes blazed with fury. "Officer, please arrest Chen Shaojie. We never consented to the organ donation of my granddaughter. He is suspected of trafficking organs for profit."
As the police began their investigation, Lin Fan and Xie Yun rushed Jiang Li to the hospital. Meanwhile, the men Qin Mu had sent to search for Youyou returned, heading straight to the hospital to report to him.
"President Qin, we have tracked down Youyou’s whereabouts, but the police got there first and seized the cotton swabs stained with her blood and the girl’s organs."
Qin Mu froze, then forced a calm demeanor. "Speak clearly. What organs? Don't tell me you’re calling her bloodied tissues organs. After all, that girl was already missing a kidney."
