Chapter 30: I Am Willing to Donate My Heart

Jiang Xue smugly inserted the needle into the vial of medicine she had prepared in advance, then turned and walked out of the ward as calmly as if nothing had happened.
Jiang Li stared blankly.
Xie Yun muttered to herself, “Is that nurse ill? She changed the medicine without giving you the injection? The needle even fell out.”
Jiang Li was equally perplexed. “Forget it, Mom. There are still many things about work that I don’t understand. Let’s go home. I was only exhausted and overcome with grief. It won’t happen again. I’ll work hard from now on!”
“But…” Xie Yun was worried about her daughter, yet Jiang Li’s stubbornness left her at a loss for words.
With nothing else she could do, Xie Yun was still hesitating when Jiang Li had already begun gathering her things and heading for the door.
By then, it was already eight in the evening. The little boy had cried himself to sleep.
Half awake, he suddenly opened his eyes and looked around. Only after confirming that Jiang Xue was nowhere in sight did he relax.
“Mommy!” He remembered Jiang Li, whom he had seen that day. “Wah… pretty lady…”
Qin Jinchen slowly climbed out of bed and pushed open the ward door. He saw his father in the next room, occupied with a business call.
But he was so hungry.
Clutching his stomach with an expression of unbearable pain, the little boy walked slowly along the corridor in his slippers.
Meanwhile, Xie Yun carried the bag while Jiang Li pressed a piece of cotton over the needle mark. After paying the bill, the two of them headed out of the hospital.
Jiang Li’s eyes were red, and the tears she had shed had left her utterly exhausted.
Suddenly, a little boy spotted her and ran over.
“Pretty auntie, it really is you! Pretty auntie, can you take me with you? I’m hungry, and I feel really awful. I want to leave with you. Is that okay?”
Seeing the little boy before her, Jiang Li clenched her fists. Blood dripped from the needle mark on her hand, but she did not notice.
There was only one thought in her mind: Her Youyou was gone, while the son of Jiang Xue and Qin Mu was still alive and well. And Youyou’s kidney was inside this very boy.
When Jiang Li remained silent, the little boy took another step forward and grabbed her hand.
“Pretty auntie, I won’t call you Mommy anymore. Please don’t be angry, okay?”
Jiang Li still said nothing, but tears streamed down her face.
“Pretty auntie, I’m willing to donate my heart to the pretty lady. Her heart is sick, so can I give her mine?”

Jiang Li crouched down and looked at the little boy. In a solemn voice, she said, “My daughter’s kidney is inside you. Her heart is failing, so you should give her yours. But you only have one heart. Are you truly willing to give it to her?”
At her words, Little Jinchen nodded forcefully.
“I am. Otherwise, this place here will hurt terribly. I want the pretty lady to live.”
Jiang Li was stunned. The child broke her heart.
Seeing the sorrow on Jiang Li’s face, Little Jinchen assured her once more. “I really am willing. My mommy doesn’t like me, and my daddy is always busy with work. I feel as if I’m unwanted. So I’d rather let the pretty lady live, because she has a mommy who loves her and cares about her.”
Jiang Li struggled to hold back her tears, but she could no longer contain them. She picked up the little boy and carried him out of the hospital.
Xie Yun looked worried. “Li, what are you trying to do? This isn’t appropriate.”
But the little boy wrapped his arms around Jiang Li’s neck and looked back at Xie Yun.
“Pretty Grandma, it’s all right. I’m coming with Pretty Auntie of my own accord. I’m willing to donate my heart to the pretty lady.”
Xie Yun’s eyes grew moist.
“Your mother is such a forceful person, yet you’re so sensible.”
At the hospital entrance, Jiang Li carried Little Jinchen straight into the car.
Sitting inside, the little boy nestled happily against Jiang Li’s chest.
“Is this what Mommy smells like? The pretty lady said Mommy smelled sweet, with a lovely fragrance.”
His words moved both Xie Yun and Jiang Li. They stared ahead with tears in their eyes, afraid that the slightest lapse in control would reduce them to sobbing wrecks.
At last, they arrived at the Jiang residence. Little Jinchen gazed excitedly at the villa before them.
“Wow! Pretty Auntie, your house looks like a castle. But I think I’ve been here before.”
Jiang Li took his hand. “Does your wound hurt? If it does, I’ll carry you.”
The little boy shook his head.
“It doesn’t hurt anymore. I don’t want the pretty lady’s mommy to work too hard.”
Jiang Li nodded and led him inside by the hand, only to find Old Master Jiang Zhenting waiting at the entrance with a cane.
“Oh, is this Qin Mu and Jiang Xue’s son, Little Jinchen?”
Old Master Jiang actually knew him. The little boy greeted him enthusiastically.
“Hello, Great-Grandpa Jiang. Jinchen is troubling you again.”
Jiang Zhenting shook his head.
“You’re not troubling me. Come here. Goodness, your little face is so pale. Are you feeling better now?”
“Yes, yes, I’m better. The pretty auntie’s daughter—the pretty lady—donated a kidney to me. This time, I came to donate my heart to her.”
Old Master Jiang frowned, then looked toward Jiang Li.
“Qin Mu and Jiang Xue don’t know that you brought him here, do they?”

Jiang Li’s eyes were red. She lowered her head and remained silent.
“Don’t tell my daddy or that bad woman. Chenchen wants to stay with Pretty Auntie. I’m willing to stay with her. She smells like Mommy.”
The little boy’s words moved everyone present.
Xie Yun stepped forward. “You must be hungry. Shall I prepare something for you?”
“Yes, please. Thank you, Pretty Grandma.”
The little boy was exceptionally sweet. Then he turned to Old Master Jiang and added, “Great-Grandpa, don’t tell my daddy—or that Jiang Xue woman. I really don’t want to see them. Is that okay?”
Jiang Zhenting nodded.
“All right. We’ll do as you say, little friend Chenchen.”
“Thank you, Great-Grandpa. There’s no one else here, Pretty Auntie. Can I call you Mommy?”
Jiang Li froze. At the thought of Qin Mu, Chen Shaojie, and Jiang Xue joining forces to cause her daughter Youyou’s death, her heart filled with indescribable emotions.
She nodded.
“All right. You can call me whatever you want, Chenchen. But Youyou died trying to save you. I’m not selfless enough to forgive everything, so I’ll use you to pressure your father and the others into finding the people responsible. You…”
“I don’t mind! Mommy, the pretty lady was really, really kind to me. I don’t mind being bait to make the bad people hand her over. I can tell the police officers too.”
Jiang Li’s eyes filled with tears.
A servant came over to lead him away.
“What a lovely little young master. May I take you to wash your hands?”
The little boy blinked.
“Yes. Mommy, can I eat with you later?”
Jiang Li nodded.
As she watched him leave, she covered her eyes and sobbed uncontrollably.
Old Master Jiang patted his granddaughter on the shoulder.
“I’ve never seen that child so happy. The last time he came here, I found it strange that he acted so timid and terrified whenever he looked at Jiang Xue. It turns out he doesn’t like that mother of his.
“But there’s something I can’t understand. Are those two truly his biological parents?”
Old Master Jiang’s words reminded Jiang Li of something. Once again, she thought of the night she had given birth to Youyou.
