Chapter 45: My Daughter Youyou Is Still Alive
Jiang Li’s heart was filled with confusion, yet Ji Han simply wore a radiant smile, looking as all-knowing and composed as Zhuge Liang himself.
"The person I am talking about is extraordinary. I brought her from Yuncheng to Jiangcheng. In the first few days, she didn't dare to move at all, not even daring to drink water."
The more Jiang Li listened, the more suspenseful it felt. Driven by overwhelming curiosity, she stared directly at Ji Han, and tears soon began to stream uncontrollably down her face.
Choking back her sobs, she asked, "Senior Ji, what do you mean? I miss Youyou. Please don't lead my thoughts toward my Youyou. The mere thought of her feels like a sharp knife violently stabbing into my heart—a sensation like a venomous snake tightening around my neck, making it hard for me to breathe."
Ji Han grabbed Jiang Li’s hands tightly. Looking at the tear-stained woman before him, he saw the very person he had secretly loved and pursued through countless days and nights.
Overwhelmed with emotion and nervous tension, Ji Han couldn't help but pull Jiang Li into his embrace, whispering softly, "Then go ahead and think about her. Think of Youyou."
Jiang Li was shocked. "Really? Dr. Ji, do you mean that you saved Youyou that day? You brought her back to life, didn't you?"
Ji Han nodded. "Yes. You will see Youyou very soon. During these past few days, Youyou underwent a heart transplant, and she is recovering wonderfully!"
"Sob!" Jiang Li could no longer hold it in, and she burst into loud tears.
Ji Han patted her shoulder soothingly, "Youyou didn't die. She is still alive. And she received a heart transplant through me; she is now a healthy little girl."
Jiang Li cried even harder, almost as if she wanted to vent all the grievances of the past few days in this single moment.
Ji Han comforted her, "I also told Qin Mu that the man in the hotel that night was me, and that Youyou is our child—yours and mine."
Jiang Li shook her head vigorously. None of that mattered anymore; the only thing that mattered was that Youyou was still alive.
The car stopped in front of a private villa, and Jiang Li suppressed the overwhelming excitement of being about to see her daughter.
The moment she got out of the car, she collapsed straight into Ji Han's arms, her legs turning weak from agitation.
Ji Han scooped Jiang Li up into his arms and strode toward the villa. Jiang Li was overcome with shyness and shame. "Senior Ji, please put me down. I can walk by myself. I can walk to see my daughter; please don't let others misunderstand."
Ji Han flexed his well-defined abs, speaking with a manly aura, "Don't move. Let me carry you. After all, this is something I have dreamed of doing for six years but never dared to."
Jiang Li was dumbfounded. She had no idea what Ji Han meant.
Although they had crossed paths in college, their relationship had never gone beyond polite nods and greetings, especially since Jiang Li had already become Qin Mu's secretary by her junior and senior years.
"Mommy!" The two words successfully made Jiang Li forget all her confusion. She gazed at her daughter through tear-blurred eyes.
The porcelain-doll-like little girl lay on the bed with a flushed face. Seeing her mother arrive, she blinked her big eyes, radiating an angelic beauty.
"Mommy! That's wonderful! Mommy, you came to see me. I'm so happy. I thought I would never see Mommy again!"
Little Youyou flung herself into her mother's arms, and the mother and daughter hugged each other and wept bitterly. Their tears held joy, longing, excitement, and happiness.
"Youyou, Mommy finally gets to see you. I'm so happy! Dr. Ji, thank you—thank you for saving Youyou and giving me the courage to go on living."
Ji Han smiled gently, his eyes turning red with a touch of deep emotion as he gathered the two of them into his arms.
"This is destiny. Destiny allowed me to save Youyou."
Jiang Li’s heart surged. Seeing her daughter truly ignited her fighting spirit.
She could finally focus entirely on her work, strive hard, fight back, and seek revenge.
"Thank you, Senior Ji Han, thank you! You have no idea—during the days I lost Youyou, I was on the verge of depression. I even wanted to drag Qin Mu and Jiang Xue down to hell with me."
Ji Han shook his head with a trace of disapproval. "No, Jiang Li, I won't allow you to die. The three of us—our family of three—will be together forever, okay?"
Jiang Li was startled. "Senior Ji, did you get something wrong? Me? How could a woman like me ever be worthy of you? After all, I was deceived so miserably by Chen Shaojie, and he still hasn't divorced me. As for Qin Mu, he and I..."
"Leave everything else to me. During the two years at the hospital, although I chose not to disturb you, I investigated everything you went through. In the past, I thought about respecting your choices—as long as you were happy, I would be content. But I realized that silent blessings are far inferior to giving them in person."
Jiang Li was bewildered. Surely a woman like her would be disliked by others. After all, she was a deeply flawed person, wasn't she?
What on earth did Ji Han mean?
Before Jiang Li could figure it out, her daughter Youyou clapped her hands with delight. "Mommy, Daddy, this is wonderful! I have a dad now, and our family of three can go to the zoo! Youyou won't be scared anymore from now on."
Her daughter's words made Jiang Li's eyes turn red again. Holding her daughter close, she said with a hint of emotional hesitation, "I'm sorry, Senior Ji Han, I know my own worth. My personality isn't very lovable, and I'm not that smart either. Even though I have a tough battle ahead of me, I still hope you will think this through carefully."
Ji Han grabbed Jiang Li's hand. "There's no need to think it over. I've already thought about it. Back then, I had a secret crush on you for so long, yet I didn't even dare to approach you or confess my feelings. I could only ask someone else to pass along a message, and you rejected me right away, leaving me full of regret for the longest time. Now, I will never give you the chance to reject me again. No matter what you face, we will bear it together. Please give me this opportunity."
"I..." Jiang Li hesitated. She looked around the spacious princess-themed bedroom, taking in the Barbie dolls, the little princess decor, and the interior design tailored entirely to her daughter's tastes. Ji Han had truly put his heart into this.
Just then, her daughter, sitting on the bed, tugged at Jiang Li's hand. "Mommy, say yes to Daddy Ji. The little boy who donated his kidney to me has a dad, so why can't I? Please say yes to Daddy Ji, and let's live happily together, okay?"
Jiang Li's eyes welled up. "It wouldn't be fair to you, Senior Ji Han. Let me sort everything out first, and then I'll let you make your decision, okay? If you are still willing to take me as your wife by then, I will gladly accept with all my heart."
Ji Han nodded. "Alright. Let us join forces and resolve everything one by one in less than a month, agreed?"
Jiang Li's face was full of deep emotion. "You mean you are going to face all these troubles with me? Solve them together with me? Is that what you mean?"
Ji Han nodded, making a solemn promise with true gentlemanly grace, "Yes. In the past, I felt it wasn't my place to interfere with the people and matters you were dealing with. But it's different now. I want to make you the happiest woman in the world, and I am going to marry you."
Tears of emotion welled up in Jiang Li's eyes. "Okay, Senior Ji Han, thank you. A few days ago, I even thought about dying—just jumping off a building to end it all. Then Grandpa found me, and I became the eldest Miss Jiang, yet I still had no idea how to go on living without my daughter. I drifted aimlessly through those dark days, and I'm so glad I met you."
