Chapter 21: We Have Nothing to Discuss
Hospital.
Xie Yuhuai returned to his office and took off his gloves.
While tidying his clothes, he casually said, "What reunion? I'm not going."
To him, attending a class reunion was nothing but a waste of time.
"In that time, I could have done two surgeries. I don’t have that kind of leisure."
After leaving the operating room, he still had to find Yu Zi. Even if he squeezed out some time, it wouldn’t be enough.
Right now, he wished he could split himself in two—one to perform surgeries, the other to win Yu Zi back.
Especially after Yu Zi called him a scoundrel, he really had no idea what had happened. Even verifying it was impossible.
Because of this matter, Xie Yuhuai felt as if his brain cells were dying off.
“Are you sure you’re not coming?”
His friend’s teasing voice came through the phone.
Xie Yuhuai didn’t catch the deeper meaning in his words and firmly declined.
“No, I’m not coming. No time, no energy.”
He was about to hang up when his friend’s voice sounded again.
“I managed to find out Yu Zi is coming too, so I thought I’d give you a heads-up, create an opportunity. Didn’t expect it was just wishful thinking on my part. If you’re not coming, fine, but Yu Zi is the campus belle of our school, and I heard she’s single. I bet plenty are coming just because of her.”
At those words, Xie Yuhuai froze, his breath quickened.
“What did you just say? Who’s coming?”
He doubted his own ears.
“Yu Zi. Yu Zi is coming. Did you hear that clearly? But since you’re not interested, everyone else will have to rely on their own means and chances...”
His friend’s words were cut off by Xie Yuhuai.
“Not coming? Who said I’m not? You must have misheard. A rare reunion like this—I absolutely can’t miss it.”
Upon hearing Yu Zi would attend, he immediately changed his stance.
“Tut tut tut, how the times have changed, people’s hearts aren’t what they used to be. Some folks care more about romance than friendship. Just now you said no without hesitation, now that you hear Yu Zi’s coming, you’re acting like a dog.”
Xie Yuhuai didn’t mind the teasing and casually replied.
“If I don’t care about romance, do I care about you? Enough, I’ve got a surgery coming up, gotta hang up. I’ll definitely attend the reunion.”
After saying that, he hung up.
Before the line went dead, faint curses could be heard from the other side.
Xie Yuhuai smiled, opened his phone’s photo gallery, and the top photo was unmistakably Yu Zi’s.
His hand gently brushed over Yu Zi’s face as he murmured to himself.
“Yu Zi, what really happened? Will this time I get an answer?”
…
The day of the reunion.
Yu Zi felt much better knowing Xie Yuhuai wouldn’t come.
But the moment she pushed open the private room door and saw that familiar face, the smile on her face vanished instantly.
She glanced at Su Qing, then turned to leave.
But Xie Yuhuai grabbed her arm. She struggled briefly but couldn’t break free.
Yu Zi looked at him coldly, her voice devoid of any warmth.
“Let go.”
Xie Yuhuai refused and pulled her away from the private room before speaking.
“Yu Zi, we need to have a proper talk.”
Seeing she had no chance to escape, Yu Zi gave up running. Her gaze fell heavily on Xie Yuhuai as she sneered.
“Xie Yuhuai, last time we met, I made it very clear—there’s nothing left to talk about between us.”
