Chapter 41: Consider the Consequences of Offending Me
"Do you have eyes on me?"
Xie Yuhuai pressed in closer, his demeanor appearing somewhat morbid.
With every question he posed, Xu Nuo’s face drained of color. She could not fathom why Xie Yuhuai would suddenly bring this up. Yet, she could not let him discover what she had been doing, so she forced a stiff...
Gul'dan was lucky; he happened to land outside the city. Had he fallen within the walls, any passing Alliance soldier could have claimed his life.
Led by the Underworld Giants and the Sea Nagas of the Netherworld, the souls being extradited stood in a long line, stepping one by one onto the Bridge of Reincarnation.
Shen Jiangchuan’s face turned livid with rage as he knocked the bronze tripod to the ground, his voice icy.
"Second brother, third brother, please, sit. Today, we shall drink until we are drunk," Zhao Lu said, beaming with the pure joy of a child. To everyone else, their Emperor remained nothing more than a child-king, a puppet ruler forever unable to claim his own autonomy.
"Damn it. Wait!" Long Jiang tried to intervene, but Yang Wei had already charged into the room opposite with Wang Chao and Ma Han, completely deaf to his words.
Pure love should be the most egalitarian of bonds, where loving and being loved are free from external constraints. Love pursued for the sake of marriage, however, is different; a love with a goal has already degraded, reduced to a mere tool for matrimony.
Cheng Yue glanced at the taxi driver in front, then rolled down the window, letting the cold night air strive to dissipate the heat rising in his chest.
"You..." Mi Jia was startled by his movement, staring at him with wide eyes. She could feel him so vividly.
Still, the sensation was thrilling, for it had been a long time since he had experienced such an exhilarating scene.
Perhaps this was something akin to the Dragon Bone Pure Yang Sword. Could it seal Chi Chen? Or even... kill him? Wasn't it called the Ghost-Slaying Sword?
"Try the other dishes," Chen Sheng said. He walked over to a pile of wood, moved it aside, and pried up a floorboard. He reached down and fumbled for a moment until he found a rope. Pulling it up, he revealed a bamboo basket tied to the end, inside of which sat a jar of potent liquor, aged for many years.
Nodding in agreement, Fu Yan knew he could not refuse the request; such were the rules of the workplace and the demands of his superior.
Upon hearing that Yu Feng wanted to drive her away, Shang Pinyu was displeased, though she did not overreact. "I’m going out for a moment," she said, before hurrying away.
Wang Xi had specifically requested a transfer to the night shift from the manager, Annie. The only place they could be encountered was the bar, though it was clearly an unsuitable place to take action.
Guided by the map, the group of four soon destroyed another hellhound den. Regrettably, they did not find any Dragon Bone Grass inside and had to depart quickly to hunt for the next target. The Dragon Bone Grass was the only proof required; to demonstrate that they had destroyed ten hellhound dens, they needed to collect at least ten stalks.
Although the sky was growing dark, they dared not camp near the valley. The events of the day had left their clothes soaked and dried repeatedly; the endless cycles of terror made it clear to everyone that leaving this wretched place as soon as possible was the only logical choice.
Lin Tian’s expression grew grave; he had underestimated Gan Qingfeng’s ferocity. Turning back now would provide temporary safety, but what would come next? Once Gan Qingfeng had slaughtered the other factions, how could they possibly escape his pursuit?
Hearing such a wretched idea, Herbert was livid; it was more humiliating than stabbing himself with a knife.
That night, both knowing it was their final evening together, they moved with excruciating slowness as they packed up their stall in silence. Each time they picked up an object, they would instinctively stroke it for a long moment before placing it onto the tricycle.
