Chapter 008: Campus Mary Sue 6
Of course, An Xiansi wasn’t going to stand there and let her hit him for nothing. His lips curled with disdain as he raised his hand and caught Guo Yiyi’s fist.
“Let go,” Guo Yiyi’s face flushed red.
“Let go?” An Xiansi raised an eyebrow, “Let go so you can punch me? Only an idiot would do that!”
“Jerk!” Guo Yiyi was furious and threw her other fist at him, but her arms were too short to reach the young man before her.
An Xiansi stood unmovable as a mountain, thinking her small hand was rather soft, and unconsciously stroked it. “Hmm, your hand is pretty smooth, like a little girl’s.”
Guo Yiyi, who had been struggling, suddenly stiffened, glaring at him in outrage. “You’re the little girl!”
With that, she raised her foot and kicked An Xiansi in the shin. He let go of her hand, wincing in pain.
“Damn,” An Xiansi hopped in place a few times, then looked up to find that the bookworm he had in his sights had disappeared.
All that remained was his beautiful fiancée, watching him with a peculiar smile. Remembering his earlier behavior, the boy’s face flushed, betraying his youth. “I was just too angry. What Guo Yiyan did was over the line.”
“But you threw his things away first,” Le Yixian said, retracting her motherly gaze. For the sake of her foolish son’s future, she decided to help him fix his rotten temper. “You were in the wrong to start with.”
“I just can’t stand him getting so close to you,” the boy muttered.
“Is it really because of me?” Le Yixian raised an eyebrow.
As the author, she knew full well that her silly son had no feelings for his fiancée; theirs was a union born of family interests.
It wasn’t until he met Guo Yiyi, this ordinary and gentle girl, that things began to change.
An Xiansi’s gaze flickered, and he turned away with a haughty air. “I just don’t like him, that’s all!”
Le Yixian noticed how red his ears were and made a knowing sound in her heart. Clearly, something was happening.
The bell signaling the start of class rang. Guo Yiyi didn’t return to the classroom. An Xiansi glanced at the empty desk, a look of recollection in his eyes.
Last night, he’d gone for a walk around his family’s mall. In the alley behind the mall, he’d nearly been mugged by some thugs. Of course, with his skills, they couldn’t get the better of him. Unexpectedly, a girl in a white dress had dashed out without hesitation, shouting that the police were coming.
Such a simple trick was quickly seen through by the thugs, and it took him considerable effort to fend them off and protect her, injuring his own arm in the process.
Enraged by his injury, he made a single call, summoning a hundred mall security guards to haul the three thugs off to the police station.
The girl, eyes brimming with tears, helped him bandage his wounded arm with her handkerchief.
Afterward, he received a skewer of candied hawthorn, bright red and glossy.
An Xiansi, who had never tasted such an ordinary treat, was silent for a moment. Watching the girl eat with relish, he asked, “You knew it was dangerous to run out there just now. Why did you do it?”
“Because I can’t just watch someone die and do nothing,” the girl replied, biting into the hawthorn.
“You didn’t help. You just dragged me down.” He pointed at his arm.
“Sorry… I didn’t think much at the time.” The girl’s mood sank, her head drooping as she murmured, “That’s just how I am. I’ve never been good at anything since I was little.”
As she spoke, her eyes reddened slightly.
An Xiansi was caught off guard. Raised among the elite, he’d never needed to comfort a girl, nor did he know how. But in this moment, he felt an inexplicable urge to cherish her.
Perhaps it was the way she’d rushed out, disregarding her own safety, that had moved him.
“You…” He was about to speak.
“Oh no!” The girl suddenly remembered something, leaping up. “My mom sent me out to buy soy sauce! I forgot! I’m done for, she’ll scold me to death. I have to go—goodbye!” she blurted, and dashed off in a flurry.
“Wait…” What’s your name? An Xiansi stood up, but she was already far away.
His eyes dropped for a moment, when suddenly a crisp voice sounded by his ear. “Oh, I almost forgot.”
An Xiansi’s eyes lit up as he saw the girl, slightly out of breath, standing before him. “Can you stop bullying Guo Yiyan from now on?”
“What?”
“I said, can you stop bullying Guo Yiyan? Take it as payment for me risking myself to help you!”
Recalling this, An Xiansi pulled from his pocket the green handkerchief with its delicate floral pattern, gripping it tightly. How was he any less than that bookworm?
Bang! He slammed his desk, startling both the teacher and the students.
“An, is something wrong?” The English teacher noticed his darkened expression.
This school belonged to the An family. As teachers, they naturally couldn’t afford to offend the future heir.
“I’m not feeling well. I’m going to the infirmary!” An Xiansi announced, rising and leaving the classroom before the teacher could respond.
The teacher and students exchanged bewildered glances.
After a while, the teacher recovered and addressed the class, “Let’s continue the lesson…”
Le Yixian looked at the two now-empty seats beside her, worry flickering in her eyes.
Her foolish son and the sweet but daft heroine were both skipping class—how could they possibly pass the exams?
“Next week, our school will hold the midterm exams. Everyone, prepare yourselves.”
Midterms… If her sweet but silly daughter didn’t pass, she’d be expelled.
Le Yixian was deeply anxious. The heroine’s twin brother, Guo Yiyan, was a genius in everyone’s eyes, scoring full marks in every subject. That was why this prestigious school had made an exception to admit him.
This school was, after all, the An family’s training ground for future company talent.
As long as poor students had good grades, all their fees would be waived and they’d receive a high-quality education.
Usually, after graduation, they’d serve the An Group.
However, there was a condition for these waivers: students had to maintain a certain level of academic performance.
Recalling the setting she’d given the heroine, Le Yixian quietly smacked her own forehead.
Failing exams was a frequent occurrence for the heroine.
Her worries made her completely forget about the existence of the protagonist’s halo.
On the day of the exam, Guo Yiyi was locked in the restroom by other students, causing her to miss the test.
For some reason, the students who bullied Guo Yiyi were immediately expelled by the school.
An Xiansi stared at the trembling bookworm before him, furious. “What’s wrong with you? Aren’t you fierce when you stand up to me? How could a few nasty girls bully you? Why didn’t you fight back?”
