Chapter 101: Doomsday 16

Lin Jingyu's expression stiffened slightly, not expecting such a direct rejection. Noticing the distance in her gaze, he spoke up, “I don’t have any strange intentions toward you, I’m just pursuing you. You’re not giving me a chance.”
“No chance. I already like someone else,” Le Yixian replied.
Lin Jingyu: “...”
It wasn’t hard to guess who Xia Meimei liked; these days, she was either with Li Ziqing or Ke Yuandao.
He felt a twinge of bitterness. No matter what, he couldn’t compete with that man—even the woman he liked had feelings for him.
“You have someone you like?” He caught the meaning behind her words and brushed his bangs aside. “So that means he doesn’t like you. In that case, I still have a chance.”
“You don’t have a chance,” Le Yixian answered.
Lin Jingyu: “He doesn’t like you.”
“He likes me,” Le Yixian said. “He’s just too shy to say it.”
Lin Jingyu imagined the wooden-faced Ke Yuandao blushing and shy, and goosebumps rose on his skin. “He’s shy??”
“Of course. When he’s shy, he’s awkward, won’t look at me, and his ears turn bright red. It’s really adorable.” Le Yixian recalled last night’s scene, her expression softening.
“Alright, stop talking,” Lin Jingyu cut her off.
“Not interested in hearing more?” Le Yixian raised an eyebrow.
“I’m not generous enough to listen to the woman I like chattering about another man,” Lin Jingyu said, turning away. “I’ll keep trying.”
After a few steps, he suddenly stopped and looked back. “You have someone you like, and Team Leader Ke is quite pitiful.”
Le Yixian was silent for a moment, then hurried toward the stairs.
There, she saw Ke Yuandao descending with a solemn face.
She: “...”
He was eavesdropping after all.
Who says men don’t understand scheming?
Look, Lin Jingyu just said a single sentence, and it upset her precious one.
“Ke Yuandao,” she called as she caught up.
Ke Yuandao paused and looked down at her, clearly in a bad mood, his voice cold, “What is it?”
“I do,” Le Yixian looked up and locked eyes with him. “I like you. Do you like me?”
Ke Yuandao: “...”
Ke Yuandao: “???”
What did she mean by that? The anger and irritation in his eyes vanished, replaced by endless confusion.

He closed his eyes, then opened them again to meet Le Yixian’s bright black eyes, murmuring, “I think I’m not fully awake yet... I’m dreaming.”
“...” Le Yixian stepped closer. “You’re not dreaming. I like you. I want to spend my life with you.”
With that, she rose onto her toes and planted a loud kiss on his cheek.
Ke Yuandao only felt the faint scent of grass and wood draw near, the soft, wonderful touch on his cheek. Before he could savor it, Le Yixian had already stepped back.
His heart stopped for a moment, then pounded wildly.
“Hmm,” Le Yixian covered her mouth, her eyes complicated as she looked at Ke Yuandao.
His expression was equally complex. “You... really like me?”
“Pfft,” Le Yixian suddenly spat out.
Ke Yuandao stiffened. Was that disdain?
“Don’t misunderstand, I do like you. I just wanted to ask, how long has it been since you last washed your face?” Le Yixian asked, noticing actual sand!
Ke Yuandao was silent: “...”
How long since he washed his face?
That was a tough question. Lately, he’d just been wiping it with a towel.
He reached out and rubbed his face hard, then found a handful of dirt.
He: “...”
Le Yixian: “...”
The atmosphere on the stairs grew silent and awkward.
“Pfft,” finally, Le Yixian couldn’t hold back and laughed.
Ke Yuandao was embarrassed and quietly hid his dirtied right hand behind his back.
“Team Leader Ke, you have to wash your face properly from now on. Although I don’t mind, eating sand when I kiss you isn’t great.” Le Yixian patted his shoulder cheerfully and walked away.
Ke Yuandao stayed rooted, watching her leave, lips tightly pressed together.
Le Yixian ate a little, then continued treating people.
After a busy morning, she finished tending to the bitten ability users’ wounds.
The team had found the armory, but with so many weapons, the ability users’ spatial powers weren’t enough to store everything. Missiles and cannons were powerful but bulky and unstable; one friction in the space could destroy it all.
Le Yixian had nothing left to do. After treating several ability users, she was tired and yawned several times.
Li Ziqing noticed and told her to rest in the dormitory.
“It’s already noon; I guess we won’t be returning today,” Li Ziqing said, glancing at the sky.

Le Yixian thought it over and decided to go back to the dorm to sleep.
Everyone was busy, so she closed the door and lay down. Suddenly, she woke with a start.
The room was empty. She closed her eyes briefly, and when she opened them again, her mind was clear.
Sharp pain radiated from the wound on her right hand. She frowned and unwrapped the bandage.
Before her eyes was a dark blackness.
Le Yixian’s heart froze.
The zombie virus had not receded.
She bowed her head and treated herself, and the black color faded.
Watching the wound return to normal, she bit her lip and got up to find the ability user she had treated the night before.
Under the pretense of helping inspect, she checked everyone’s wounds. All were healing normally.
There was no anomaly.
Sitting on the steps by the training ground, watching the busy ability users in the distance, she clenched her fist tightly.
She wasn’t afraid of turning into a zombie; she worried about whether she would still remember Ke Yuandao afterward.
After much thought, she realized the problem lay with Yang Zhengqi, who had retained his sanity after becoming a zombie in the apocalypse.
He seemed to have some grudge against the original owner as well.
The research institute—what exactly was the original owner doing there?
Who had arbitrarily inserted this plot twist? Even she, the author, didn’t know.
Returning to the training ground, she found that the ability users had somehow gathered more than ten transport trucks.
After asking around, she learned they were parked in the woods behind the base. Testing showed all vehicles were intact and fueled, perfect for transporting weapons back.
With transportation secured, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and began loading, eager to return to base soon.
“Hey, do you think anyone survived at the base?” Li Ziqing suddenly asked.
Le Yixian said nothing. The food was in the kitchen, the trucks were here, the weapons were here—everything was clear.
When writing this story, she hadn’t realized how brutal the world she created was until she was caught in it herself.
