Le Yixian had never imagined she would be shut out so directly.

She reached out and knocked again, but there was not the slightest sound from inside.

“Guo Yiyi, open the door, I have something to tell you.” Le Yixian knew she was hiding behind the door, and spoke helplessly.

“Don’t you want to know news about An Xiansi?”

Still, there was no answer.

“I have someone I like, An Xiansi has someone he likes too. Our engagement was arranged by our families,” Le Yixian added.

The door creaked open from within.

Guo Yiyi, her short hair tousled, poked her head out, her eyes filled with hope. “Really?”

“Of course,” Le Yixian’s eyes curved as she pointed to Ke Yuandao at her side. “This is the person I like.”

“Yuandao?” Guo Yiyi’s face showed surprise.

Le Yixian narrowed her eyes slightly. “You know each other?”

“Yes, we worked together as library administrators at school, so we met there.” Without waiting for Guo Yiyi to answer, Ke Yuandao hurried to explain, as if worried Le Yixian might misunderstand.

Guo Yiyi nodded repeatedly.

“Oh,” Le Yixian nodded; indeed, the original heroine had worked part-time at the school library.

“I came to tell you that you don’t need to feel guilty for being with An Xiansi because of me. Not at all,” Le Yixian looked at the young girl before her. “Just be with him as you wish.”

Perhaps, once the story reached its conclusion, Ke Yuandao would awaken in reality.

“Li classmate,” Guo Yiyi was moved to tears by her words.

“As for my engagement to him, we’ll resolve it ourselves.”

“Mm!”

Leaving Guo Yiyi’s house, Le Yixian felt both physically and emotionally refreshed. In her delight, she couldn’t help teasing her little lover several times, who responded in a flustered manner, his neck flushed deep red.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t appropriate to steal a kiss in such a busy place, especially since her little lover was so shy.

Le Yixian thought with regret, then got in the car and instructed the driver to take Ke Yuandao home first.

After he got out, he walked off in three strides, lingering reluctantly at their parting.

“See you tomorrow,” Le Yixian waved to him.

With her promise, Ke Yuandao’s eyes brightened. “Senior, see you tomorrow.”

Upon returning home, her well-informed eldest brother had already discovered that Le Yixian had visited her “rival.”

He waited in the hall, and when he saw Le Yixian enter, humming a tune, he beckoned to her. “Xue, come.”

“Big brother,” Le Yixian called, sitting on the sofa opposite him.

The Li family butler promptly served a cup of warm spring water.

“I heard you went to see that girl?” her eldest brother inquired.

“Yes,” Le Yixian answered directly, not intending to hide anything. “I’m going to break off my engagement with An Xiansi.”

This time, her brother didn’t object as he usually did.

Recently, his little sister had been repeating this idea. If it was anger before, now, from her calm and serious expression, it was clear she wasn’t acting on impulse.

“You’re really decided to break the engagement?” he asked. “If you do, there’ll be no regrets later.”

He’d always spoken gently to her, but now his tone was particularly solemn. “I hope you’ll consider carefully. Our family is not short on money, but we only want you to be happy.”

“You’re always so impulsive. Back then, you liked An Xiansi just because that brat sent you an ugly doll every birthday and insisted on marrying him.”

“Father couldn’t help it. Coincidentally, Uncle An thought the marriage was a good idea, so you two were engaged.”

“Now, after less than a semester at college, you say you’ve found someone you like and want to break off the engagement. Sister, I’m really afraid you might be swindled and not even know it.”

At last, her brother sighed in resignation.

Le Yixian’s eyes stung. She reached up to rub them and lowered her head. “I’m sorry.”

She didn’t know if the apology was for her brother or for the original owner.

The original owner’s family had always doted on her. For Le Yixian, that feeling was unfamiliar.

She had created this world herself, yet found herself comforted by its inhabitants.

The emotion left Le Yixian at a loss.

“Fool,” her brother’s gaze softened, then he remembered something, a hint of disdain crossing his face. “If you have time, bring your sweetheart home for us to meet.”

He wanted to see who had stolen his sister away.

Saturday morning.

“Darling, what do you think of my dress?” Mrs. Li twirled before her husband in a sapphire blue dress studded with gems.

“Beautiful,” Mr. Li nodded, and seeing the color, chose a matching sapphire blue tie from the wardrobe.

Mrs. Li laughed, took the tie, and helped him put it on.

Hand in hand, they walked to the hall, finding all four sons seated at the breakfast table.

Mrs. Li’s keen eyes quickly noticed that each son had dressed carefully today, each more handsome than the last.

Yet, the handsome sons seemed in poor spirits, their moods gloomy, so much so that the maids served breakfast with extra care.

“Where’s Xue?” Mrs. Li looked around but didn’t see her precious daughter.

“She went to pick someone up,” the eldest answered darkly.

The other sons looked even more displeased.

Mrs. Li watched, both amused and exasperated.

“Miss is home,” the butler hurried in to report.

Everyone in the dining room perked up, and Mr. Li couldn’t help asking, “Butler, how does Xue’s… guest look?”

The others’ eyes all turned to the butler.

His expression was slightly complicated, but before he could speak, Le Yixian arrived, leading a visibly nervous Ke Yuandao.

“Good morning, Dad, Mom, brothers!” Le Yixian greeted.

The Li family responded, then, seeing Ke Yuandao—who was a head shorter than Le Yixian—their eyes widened in surprise.

“This is Ke Yuandao,” Le Yixian introduced with a smile.

“Hello, uncles, aunt, brothers,” Ke Yuandao greeted politely.

No, we’re not fine at all.

Back to when Ke Yuandao and Le Yixian left Guo Yiyi’s home.

Ke Yuandao lay in bed, hugging a rainbow caterpillar plush, staring blissfully at his left hand—his senior had held his hand all day, and he didn’t want to wash it.

But if he didn’t wash, she might hold it again tomorrow. He couldn’t let bacteria from his hand get onto her, so he’d wash it thoroughly in the morning.

Beep beep!!

His phone rang by the bed.

Ke Yuandao picked it up and raised an eyebrow as he saw the latest message.

Guo Yiyi: You mean the person you like is Li classmate??!!

—Yes.

—So, when I was hesitating, you encouraged me to accept Xiansi’s pursuit because you liked Li classmate?

—What do you think?

—You’re terrifying.

—Keep an eye on that fool An Xiansi. Don’t let him anywhere near my senior. Hmph~
