Chapter 023: Campus Mary Sue 21
"That's not right," An Xiansi listened to her words and found them incredible. "You obviously came to school because you like me."
"No," Le Yixian replied directly.
An Xiansi didn't say anything more. He silently observed Le Yixian for a while, and in the end, no one knew what wild notions he conjured up. His gaze toward her became tinged with pity and guilt. He sighed and said, "Mu Xue, thank you."
Le Yixian: "..."
"I know you're saying this just to bring me and the bookworm together. I'm sorry, but I can't like you anymore. I'll give your family an explanation."
Le Yixian looked at him expressionlessly. What on earth has he imagined?
"Think whatever you want," she tossed out, standing up to leave.
She still had to visit her little darling at home; she had no time to waste with him.
An Xiansi watched the door close, his eyes melancholically fixed on the window. Being too outstanding as a man really had its drawbacks.
With that thought, he picked up his phone and dialed his father. "Hello, Dad, it's me."
"Yes, I need to tell you something. I want to break off the engagement with Mu Xue!"
Hearing this, his father naturally refused and erupted in a furious tirade.
"Dad, there's no love between Mu Xue and me. I don't like her. You don't even know what love is—you're as heartless as Fa Hai!"
After saying this, An Xiansi hung up directly.
On the other end, his father stared at the black screen, veins throbbing in his forehead.
This foolish son—he's at it again!
"Boss?" The assistant watched as his employer's face darkened, cautiously reminding him, "Tonight, we’re scheduled to have dinner with the president of Balala Winery..."
"Cancel it. Book a flight. We're going back home tonight," his father slammed the table.
"The young master caused trouble again?" The assistant immediately understood. Having followed his boss for years and watched An Xiansi grow up, he naturally knew why his boss was acting this way.
"He’s nothing but trouble left behind by his mother!" An Xiansi's mother had passed away after giving birth to him, leaving the pitiful father and son to depend on each other. An Xiansi’s father took special care in his son’s education and upbringing, never remarrying.
Many matters concerning An Xiansi, he handled personally.
He arranged for a deputy general manager to handle business, then took his assistant and flew straight from France on a private jet.
Le Yixian, in her little darling’s room, was blissfully unaware of everything An Xiansi was doing.
"Does your head hurt?" Le Yixian sat by the hospital bed. Seeing the apples beside her, she picked one up and began peeling it.
"Senior... Senior, let me!" Seeing her action, Ke Yuandao jumped, hurriedly trying to stop her.
"You've nearly been knocked silly; what are you peeling apples for? Sit tight and wait for your food." Le Yixian tapped the table with the knife, and at her words, Ke Yuandao dared not protest further, quietly sitting.
He glanced at his senior, watching her slender fingers handle the apple and the knife, the thin peel spiraling downward.
His gaze traveled upward, finally settling on her lips.
Le Yixian's lips were thin, pale, almost devoid of color.
Ke Yuandao's thoughts drifted. He recalled that moment yesterday afternoon in the dim auditorium seats.
It seemed, perhaps, almost like a dream.
He felt sad and sorrowful—he knew his senior had always liked An Xiansi, the young master.
But, having been struck on the head and allowed such a beautiful dream, it was worth it.
Thinking this brought him both satisfaction and regret. If only he could kiss her just once more—just once.
Suddenly, a peeled apple appeared before him. Ke Yuandao snapped back, meeting Le Yixian’s smiling eyes. "What were you thinking about?"
"Uh, nothing..." Ke Yuandao’s handsome face flushed as he murmured a thank you and took the apple, holding it with a conflicted expression.
"Is it too big? I can cut it smaller," seeing him hesitate, Le Yixian offered.
"No, I'll eat it!" At her words, Ke Yuandao opened his mouth and stuffed the apple in, crunching away. In two or three bites, he'd eaten most of it, his cheeks bulging like a little hamster storing food.
"Eat slowly," Le Yixian urged.
Ke Yuandao slowed down, nibbling at the apple. Suddenly, he stopped, as if something had occurred to him. "Senior," he called, his face showing complicated emotions.
Le Yixian responded.
"Aren't you going to see An Xiansi?" As he said this, Ke Yuandao gripped the apple tightly.
"I’ve just seen him," Le Yixian answered.
Oh, so she’d already seen him. Of course, he was more important than himself. How could he ever compare? If only he held such an important place in her heart.
He would never mix with that girl disguised as a boy. He’d treat his senior well, always.
He would. Thinking that, Ke Yuandao felt aggrieved and sad.
He felt like the little mermaid who fell in love with the prince, her voice stolen by the wicked witch, unable to tell her beloved the truth.
Clearly, it was him...
"Do you want to go back and accompany An Xiansi?" The more he thought, the more miserable he felt. Looking at the beautiful girl before him, he worried that her staying here would make him believe she liked him. Aggrieved yet unwilling, he asked.
"No," Le Yixian answered crisply, looking at his expression. Remembering her lover’s habit of wild imagination, she spoke, "The person I like is here. Why go anywhere else?"
"Oh... the person you like..." Ke Yuandao repeated halfway before realizing what Le Yixian had said. His eyes widened, staring at her in disbelief, and he cautiously asked, "Senior, what did you just say?"
"I said, the person I like is here. Why go anywhere else?" Le Yixian repeated.
The person she liked—here?
Here!
Ke Yuandao froze, uncertainly asking, "The person you like is...?"
"You," Le Yixian’s lips curved slightly. "The one I like is you."
She looked at Ke Yuandao with utmost seriousness. He heard her words clearly, and all the gloom in his heart vanished, replaced by bursts of radiant fireworks.
"Am I dreaming?" he asked.
His senior had said she liked him. He was so excited, his gaze burning yet restrained as he called again, "Senior."
"Hmm?"
"Can you kiss me? I feel like I’m dreaming." The young man’s eyes were expectant and fervent.
Le Yixian couldn’t help but laugh. "Alright."
She leaned closer to him.
Ke Yuandao watched her face draw near, his heartbeat accelerating. He closed his eyes.
"Son, Mom’s here to see you..." His mother pushed open the door, catching the two just as they were about to touch. At her entrance, they quickly pulled apart.
