Chapter 102: Strife in the Inner Courtyard
Hah, that was impressive. You really have nerves of steel—actually compressing the blood energy inside your body to make them explode. Aren’t you afraid of blowing yourself to death?
In the pit, five or six meters deep, Damon looked at Wang Luo with open admiration and asked in astonishment. He knew this move too. He clearly remembered that when his father taught it to him, he had warned him never to use it unless life and death were at stake. That raging blood energy could kill enemies, but it could just as easily kill the user.
“Thank you for saving me. But for now, you need to leave for a while. I have to save Kairo!”
Though Wang Luo did not understand why Damon had rescued him, he had no time to ask questions. Kairo’s condition was a little strange.
“Uh...”
After a brief daze, Damon looked at Kairo, whom Wang Luo had pinned to the ground with one hand. When he saw the prominent bulge below Kairo’s waist, he instantly understood. His expression turned most peculiar, and he could not help blinking several times at Wang Luo.
“Uh, well, Wang Luo, I suppose I count as your lifesaver too. Let me ask you something: when a man does that with another man, is it really better than with a woman...?”
...
On the high platform, nearly a hundred people stared in surprise at Chelsea and Hanrold, their hearts filled with intense curiosity about the newcomer named Wang Luo. He had not even appeared, and yet he had already brought out the Fallen Decree.
One must know that the Fallen Decree was no small thing. It could make the four great powers of Fallen City do one thing within their means, so long as it did not harm another’s interests. And yet it had been used so casually, merely for the sake of a child. Many people were inwardly cursing what a waste that was.
“Chelsea, Hanrold, what happened? Who is this Wang Luo? I heard that not long ago you also used a Fallen Decree for a newcomer, and it seemed to involve Teacher Geda as well. I thought it was just a rumor, but now it seems to be true!”
After a moment of silent thought, Karl looked at Chelsea and Hanrold and said slowly. His lukewarm words once again caused quite a stir among the crowd.
“I’m rather curious about that child now. I had no idea a Fallen Decree had already been drawn out because of him. And I never knew a thing about it. Karl, the four outer courts basically have no contact with one another, yet you actually know what is happening in the South Court. Seems you care quite a lot about Chelsea!”
Binro, his eyes half open and half closed, opened them and glanced at Karl with interest, speaking at an unhurried pace. When he finished, a faint, almost imperceptible sneer appeared at the corner of his mouth.
“The four outer courts having basically no contact refers to the students. The courts only forbid teachers from revealing student information; they never forbade them from revealing teacher information. Binro, I wonder who it was that just heard the name Wang Luo and suddenly stiffened, his eyes snapping wide open in such shock?”
A flash of brilliance passed through Karl’s eyes. He smiled faintly and replied in an even tone, sneering inwardly: trying to sow discord? You’re still too green for that.
Hearing the exchange between Karl and Binro, the murmuring below abruptly ceased. Each person began making calculations of their own. It was obvious that the hundred people on the platform were not especially harmonious with one another, though that was only natural. Wherever there are people, there is intrigue.
“Hanrold, by the time I arrived, what you described was already over. This matter has now involved the internal affairs of Fallen Academy, and it counts as a lapse on the academy’s part. You may keep your Fallen Decree, and the original promise still stands.”
A gray figure flashed into existence for no apparent reason, appearing eerily on the high platform. Everyone bent slightly at the waist and gave the gray figure a respectful bow, listening quietly to his words without daring to make the slightest sound.
“What a perfect outcome. Hanrold, your Fallen Decree is still intact. Perhaps next time it will have to be used on Wang Luo again. After all, the Thunder Domain Token is about to be revealed. Heh heh.”
Once the gray-clad figure vanished, Karl smiled at Hanrold and spoke. At the end, he cast a faint glance at Binro, his provocation unmistakable.
“I have no idea who Wang Luo is, but I can at least be certain that the Thunder Domain Token is definitely not on him. So, Hanrold, Chelsea, you can let out a—”
Before he could finish, Binro retorted with a blank expression. At the same time, he looked toward Hanrold and Chelsea, only then realizing that their faces had suddenly grown very dark, a suffocating aura beginning to spread from both of them.
Crack...
An azure flash came and went. The scattered stones on the ground instantly turned to powder, swept upward by an unseen wind. Riding an azure sword, Hanrold shot off the platform and vanished in an instant.
“A spirit weapon?”
“It’s a pseudo spirit weapon! No one below the seventh rank can wield a true spirit weapon!”
“With a pseudo spirit weapon, he’s practically invincible below the seventh rank. Some seventh-rank experts don’t even have one!”
...
Ignoring the discussion rising from the square below, Chelsea cast a deep glance toward the dense forest in the air. He circulated his battle aura, blue light bursting from his body as he transformed into a streak of blue radiance and raced away into the distance.
“So fast! I didn’t even see his movements clearly!”
“That’s one of the Water family’s secret arts, the Sea-Treading Wave Step. Of course it’s formidable!”
...
Chelsea’s departure stirred another wave of discussion. The eyes of those on the platform grew grave. The battle-aura fluctuations Chelsea had just displayed were no weaker than Hanrold’s, and that surprised them greatly.
“Heh, they’re all gone. Binro, you can wait slowly for your Thunder Domain Token by yourself.”
Stretching lazily, Karl rose to his feet, glanced at Binro, and spoke. Then waves of blue water appeared beneath his feet, carrying him swiftly away through the crowd.
“Hmph!”
White, icy mist spread with Binro’s cold snort. A crystalline white sword flashed and vanished, and with it disappeared Binro, his white robes and frosty expression gone in an instant.
“Anville, since you’re so close to Chelsea, do you know what happened? Who exactly is this Wang Luo?”
Lying in the reclined chair she had brought herself, Anville was reading a book. At the question, her hand paused slightly before she continued reading. She then said to the girl beside her, who wore a look of eager curiosity:
“Wang Luo? You’ll understand once you see him. I’m not especially close to him either. But Macy, I advise you not to provoke him. The consequences would be very serious.”
“Hearing you say that only makes me truly interested in this Wang Luo boy.”
Macy’s eyes shone with curiosity and excitement as she answered.
“Suit yourself. Anyway, I wasn’t planning to stick my nose into this matter.”
Shrugging, Anville replied indifferently and was about to continue reading when someone walked over, though not to see her.
“Heh, Anville, you’re always the most comfortable one. You just drag a chair over and sit down. Macy, do you want a chair? I can go fetch one for you.”
A young man of about twenty, carrying a greatsword on his back, came over. After greeting Anville, he shifted his attention to Macy.
“Bass, I wouldn’t dare do that. Back when Anville wanted a chair, she fought several people for it. I’m just borrowing her light and sitting at the edge of her chair.”
After saying that with a bright smile, Macy ignored Bass and plopped down beside Anville’s chair, pulling Anville close as the two began whispering to each other, leaving Bass standing to one side...
