Chapter Sixty-Seven: A Kiss Draws Blood
In the blink of an eye, a month had passed. Wang Luo still attended lectures diligently each day, striving to become a good student, yet he hadn’t sought out the teacher who imparted their knowledge—he simply didn’t have the time.
Throughout this month, Wang Luo read voraciously, devouring books without regard for sleep or food, determined to familiarize himself with this continent as quickly as possible. Of course, he didn’t neglect his cultivation, either. The wealth of information he absorbed made it clear: to survive on the Tianxuan Continent, one needed formidable strength.
Classes, meals, reading, cultivation—this was Wang Luo’s daily routine. Unknowingly, he drifted away from the larger student body of the academy, residing alone in his small courtyard, acquainted only with the three others who lived there.
Wang Luo didn’t mind this at all. He had always been somewhat solitary, preferring quiet. Besides, he was still uncertain about the situation of the Three Beasts; all he knew was that they weren’t in any mortal danger.
Though Wang Luo had once told the Three Beasts that, should they ever be separated, they should return to the Magical Beast Forest and wait for him there, he knew these creatures weren’t exactly obedient—they wouldn’t simply stay put, awaiting his return.
Wang Luo himself was hardly safe. He suspected that Black Ru and Lei Ji had marked him in their own ways, and as soon as he left the Land of the Fallen, he’d surely be found by them. At that point, his life would likely be forfeit.
“Omnipresent wind element, heed my call and transform into sharp blades. Slice through all evil in the world... Wind Blade Technique!”
“Omnipresent fire element, heed my call and transform into scorching fireballs. Burn away all sin... Fireball Technique!”
In the early morning, awakening from cultivation, Wang Luo heard the daily chanting echoing in his ears. After washing up, he stepped outside, gazing at the three diligently training in the courtyard.
“Ha ha, Wang Luo, look—they’re fighting again. Who do you think will win today?” Abigail, who was practicing his sword nearby, spotted Wang Luo and, ears flapping, ran over breathlessly to ask.
“No matter who wins, someone will treat us to a meal!” Wang Luo replied cheerfully, then shifted the topic to ask Abigail what he was curious about.
One mustn’t underestimate Abigail’s large ears; they weren’t just for show. They were incredibly sensitive. Even the softest whispers were audible to him, and sometimes, even if he didn’t want to listen, he couldn’t help it. He still couldn’t completely control those two enormous ears.
Today was a day off—a mandated rest day each month. Wang Luo planned to seek out the teacher who taught magical theory and combat energy, to inquire about the art of forging. Yet meeting that teacher was no easy feat; so far, few students had managed to pass through the magical array the teacher had set up and finally meet him.
“That array is a simple illusion formation. Anyone who’s reached Level Four could certainly pass, but those who reach Level Four have already entered the inner courtyard and aren’t interested. Level Three students might be able to make it, but Level Two is risky, and below that, it’s nearly impossible!” Hearing Abigail and Wang Luo’s conversation, Pril and Cairo, having finished their duel, came over.
“Boss, have you never tried that array? The three of us all gave it a shot—only Abigail made it through!” As Pril spoke, Wang Luo looked at the grinning Abigail; he hadn’t expected this little fellow to be so impressive.
“Heh, Boss, it’s because my nose is so sensitive. I followed the scent of the flowers blooming in the teacher’s courtyard and got in by instinct!” Through their conversation, Wang Luo learned of many things that had happened over the past month—things he’d missed. For instance, Abigail became famous among this year’s students after passing the magical illusion array; another student, a poor boy named Shabby, possessed a top-tier earth affinity and had already broken through to Level Two. There were many such stories.
“Boss, to be honest, you’re a bit too reclusive. Besides us, no one knows you’re a Level Two mage. Otherwise, you’d have a reputation among this year’s students!”
“Yes, in our Northern District, there are three hundred students in total. Only thirty-eight have broken through to Level Two—thirty-nine counting you. You’re so low-key you seem like a little grown-up…”
Walking toward the teacher’s residence, Wang Luo watched the youthful faces passing by, recalling Pril’s words. Gradually, a faint smile appeared on his lips.
He looked at the swirling mist before him and, without hesitation, stepped inside. Instantly, the scene changed—ferocious magical beasts appeared all around, snarling, baring their teeth as they rushed at him.
Unfazed, Wang Luo calmly walked a few steps. The scene shifted again: blazing flames roared and licked at him, waves of heat washing over. Wang Luo moved forward once more.
Another transformation—sand and stones flew, wild winds howled. Wang Luo stepped forward, his clothes untouched, and at his final step, he relaxed, knowing he’d exited the simple Level Three magical illusion array.
His foot fell, and his vision brightened—a bamboo grove stretched out before him, each stalk swaying gently in the breeze. Yet Wang Luo’s brows furrowed.
“Who are you?” Suddenly, a sweet voice sounded behind him. Wang Luo turned, stunned, his eyes filled with awe.
“Who are you?” The girl’s voice came again, and Wang Luo felt his heart tremble. Her pure, otherworldly face and slightly pouting red lips filled him with inexplicable thirst; a flush of crimson edged his vision.
“You—” As her lips parted once more, Wang Luo felt something explode in his mind. In a flash, he was at her side, and before she could react, he pressed his lips fiercely, mercilessly to hers, drinking deeply of her sweetness.
His hand around her waist began to caress unconsciously, jolting the girl from her disbelief. Angrily and shyly, she bit down hard on his tongue, the taste of blood spreading through her mouth.
“Hiss!” Lost in passion and cursing his own youth, Wang Luo was suddenly stung by pain at the tip of his tongue, snapping him back to his senses. He licked at the blood on his lips and looked at the girl now pressed against a bamboo stalk.
“You—” As her lips opened again, Wang Luo felt another surge of wild desire. In a flash, he was beside her again, pinning her to the bamboo, his left arm around her waist. Amid her confusion and panic, he kissed her without hesitation.
His right hand was not idle either—suddenly, a dagger appeared, and he stabbed it mercilessly into the bamboo beside her, skewering a small green snake…
