Chapter Nineteen: The Seal
Just moments ago, at the bottom of the pool, he and the lioness mother were at the most crucial moment when Wang Luo, that troublesome boy, suddenly woke up.
What’s more infuriating is that the wretched boy actually tried to jump into the pool. Luckily, he was struck hard and sent flying. But the lioness mother was so startled that, with a sudden movement, the blow he had painstakingly prepared was wasted in the water.
However, when the lion father caught sight of Wang Luo’s appearance, he burst into laughter. At that moment, Wang Luo had his back to them, wedged in the crook of a tree. The tattered beast-skin skirt around his waist had been reduced to strips, but it still hung loyally at his hips.
Wang Luo was bracing his feet against the tree, inching his body upward from between the branches. As he struggled upward, the strips of beast-skin swayed, revealing his pale little bottom. That little bottom wiggled enticingly, and through the gap between his legs, one could glimpse a small, wriggling caterpillar.
The lion father pointed at Wang Luo’s wiggling bottom and laughed heartily. When he saw the little caterpillar, he was even more pleased—it was no match for his own.
Finally, with the help of the little white lion, Wang Luo regained his freedom. He cast a fierce glare at the lion father who was still laughing unabashedly.
Taking a deep breath, Wang Luo nonchalantly wore his shredded beast-skin skirt, hugged the little white lion, and swaggered into the pool, politely greeting both lion parents as he went.
The lion father stared, baffled by Wang Luo’s lack of reaction. He remembered that ever since Wang Luo was able to lift things, he had wrapped himself in a beast-skin skirt and cared deeply about it. Sometimes, out of boredom, the lion father would purposely pull off Wang Luo’s skirt, leading to countless battles between them. Why was Wang Luo acting so differently today? He couldn’t understand.
As Wang Luo combed the little white lion’s fur in the water, he comforted himself inwardly: Hmph, it’s not as if you haven’t seen it before. Considering you caught me a black panther, I’ll let it go this time. Next time, I’ll make sure to get my revenge. Hmph, then I’ll give you some medicine and lock you up with a sow...
The lioness mother glanced at Wang Luo and the little white lion bathing in the water, then shifted her gaze to the lion father’s gloomy face. Perhaps she hadn’t understood Wang Luo’s actions before, but now she did.
Wang Luo must have realized that their reunion would soon end, so he chose not to make a fuss with the lion father. Otherwise, who knows what trouble he’d stir up.
Soon, Wang Luo, clad in a new beast-skin skirt, appeared before the lioness mother; the lion father had wandered off somewhere unknown. Wang Luo obediently hugged the little white lion and sat facing the lioness mother, sensing she had something important to say.
The lioness mother regarded Wang Luo with a loving smile. At first, she had brought him home simply because the little white lion liked him and because she pitied him. But after years together, she had come to see Wang Luo as her own son.
She gently ruffled his hair and shared her views on spiritual power, as well as methods to solve his bodily issues once he entered the human world.
After hearing her words, Wang Luo stared at her in surprise—not because of the spiritual power she spoke of, but because he noticed a change in her. Especially when she discussed these matters, her eyes shone with a penetrating brilliance, as if she could see through everything. It was unnerving.
“Luo’er, Luo’er…”
The lioness mother noticed Wang Luo’s odd gaze and repeated his name several times before he finally responded.
“Ah, let’s do as you say, lioness mother. If I encounter other Sanctuary-level beings and they discover my spiritual power, it’ll be trouble. Is there anything wrong with the blood energy?”
Wang Luo, now distracted, addressed the lioness mother.
“There’s no major problem with the blood energy. Neither your father nor I have sensed its presence in you—we only feel your vitality is stronger than others. As long as you don’t use it, Sanctuary-level beings shouldn’t detect it. Unless absolutely necessary, you’d best not use the blood energy. Like spiritual power, it’s strong; if discovered, you’ll be in danger all the same.”
The lioness mother glanced at the distracted Wang Luo, thinking he was gloomy at their impending separation. In many stories she’d told, partings were always sorrowful. Remembering this, she said, “Luo’er, shall I tell you a story?”
“A story?”
Wang Luo, absent-mindedly combing the little white lion’s fur, responded in surprise. He recalled that the black panther had followed him because of a story, which amused him. He couldn’t help but think: Why is lion father so childish? If, from now on, everything is done according to my stories, the fun will be endless, hehe...
“What mischief are you plotting now?”
Just as Wang Luo was delighting in his thoughts, the lion father’s voice startled him. He realized that at some point, the lion father had sat beside the lioness mother, eyeing him with suspicion.
“It’s nothing, lion father. Let’s use your innate skill now!”
Mention of his innate skill made the lion father happy. He quickly had Wang Luo lie on the ground, preparing to use the skill for the first time, eager to see its effect.
The lion father nodded to the lioness mother, then approached Wang Luo. He pressed a finger to his own brow, and from it, a palm-sized rune composed of countless golden threads slowly emerged, floating silently above his palm, its golden light flickering.
Lying on the ground, Wang Luo watched curiously. To him, it looked simply like a patch of golden light.
Had he not known beforehand that it was woven from strands of gold-element magic, he wouldn’t have recognized it. Using his spiritual sense, he could barely make out some blurred patterns.
According to the lioness mother, the lion father’s innate skill was called the Seal Rune, capable of sealing the power of anyone weaker than himself.
The lioness mother intended to use this Seal Rune to confine Wang Luo’s spiritual power within his dantian. He could still cultivate, but the power would only flow in, not out.
Breaking the Seal Rune was simple: if the lion father wished, he could withdraw it at any time. If forced open by external means, the rune would rebound and explode the sealed power within the bearer.
There was another way to break the rune: when the power inside reached the rune’s limit, it could burst through.
The lion father crouched before Wang Luo and placed the Seal Rune on his belly. It flashed and vanished. Wang Luo’s inner vision revealed his dantian now gleamed with golden light.
