Chapter Ninety-Four: The Fangboar’s Plea
The Celestial Mystery Academy was divided into an inner court and an outer court. To enter the inner court from the outer court, one had to reach the fourth rank. However, because the academy possessed immense cultivation resources, the geniuses admitted there could usually break through to the fourth rank in only a year.
To reach the fourth rank was merely a matter of accumulating elemental power. Once the energy was sufficient, the breakthrough would come naturally. But after the fourth rank, further advancement was no longer so simple. Cultivation from then on could no longer be stacked up so easily with pills and magic crystals alone.
Of course, later cultivation still could not do without pills and other resources. Only with truly abundant resources could one’s path of cultivation become smoother, allowing a person to stand above the crowd and become a strong one.
At the Celestial Mystery Academy, one had to display enough talent to obtain sufficient resources. The stronger the talent, the more resources one received.
Talent in cultivation, combat talent, and one’s personal character were all counted as talent. To assess the students comprehensively and understand their potential, the academy instituted the Trial Tournament for entry from the outer court into the inner court, allowing the students to live for ten days in the Forest of Trials and then judging their potential by the number of magic beasts they had slain.
The Forest of Trials was divided into three parts: low, middle, and high. The low forest was home to low-level magic beasts of the first, second, and third ranks. The middle forest was home to middle-level magic beasts of the fourth, fifth, and sixth ranks. The high forest, meanwhile, was inhabited by large numbers of seventh-rank magic beasts.
The low forest was the proving ground of outer-court students. The middle forest was the proving ground of most inner-court students, and also the trial ground for outer-court students seeking entry into the inner court. The high forest, in turn, was where students at the peak of the sixth rank went in search of a breakthrough.
In the blink of an eye, it was already noon. One-twentieth of the tournament had passed, that is, half a day. By then, the outer-court students had basically already entered the middle forest with ease, for that was where the real trial tournament began.
And at this moment, deep in the low forest, in the old den of the Tusk Boar, blue light overflowed, illuminating the entire cavern so clearly that every detail inside could be seen at a glance.
Huff, huff...
A snake, its entire body a deep azure, lay flat in the cave, its body radiating ghostly blue magic light. Beneath its lower half, a Tusk Boar crouched there, greedily devouring a giant mushroom, issuing satisfied and excited snorts from its snout.
At the cave mouth, a figure sat cross-legged on the ground, brows tightly furrowed, staring at the pale milky liquid droplets on the floor before him. His expression shifted again and again, complex and troubled.
Not far away, a small black monkey had curled itself into a ball, its body trembling from time to time. At the same time, an unusual fluctuation was emanating from within its body, clearly indicating that some kind of change was taking place inside the little monkey.
Huff...
Suddenly, the Tusk Boar sensed a violent tremor from within its mouth, and excitement immediately filled its eyes. The rhythm of its sucking quickened in an instant, and it let out a few strange snorting sounds.
Mmm-hmm...
Milky white liquid sprayed from the opening at the top of the giant mushroom. Before it could fly away, a pig’s mouth caught it, and then, with a push upward, that mouth swallowed the entire mushroom as it sprayed, sucking at it with great effort.
The Tusk Boar did not notice, nor did the cross-legged figure, nor the little black monkey curled up nearby, that within the milky liquid swallowed by the Tusk Boar were tiny, nearly imperceptible flecks of blue light.
Huff...
The satisfied Tusk Boar looked at the mushroom as it slowly softened and thinned, savoring the taste, and only when it had fully contracted into the snake’s deep blue scales did the boar finally turn away reluctantly and snorting, walk toward the figure not far off.
Huff...
Seeing the milky liquid on the ground, the Tusk Boar could not help but freeze, emitting a puzzled snort. It glanced at the seated figure; seeing no sign of obstruction, it stretched out its snout to lick at it.
Sizzle--
A blazing flame suddenly flashed into being, and the milky liquid on the floor vanished in an instant, leaving the Tusk Boar looking resentful and wronged.
“Ah, Tusk Boar, tell me, what should I do?”
Patting the boar’s head in consolation, Wang Luo said irritably, his face carrying a look of near-tears despair. Right now he truly had no idea what to do. Although in his previous life he had lived twenty years, he still felt helpless before the present situation.
Though he was only twelve years old in this life, his body had developed quite rapidly, and after several intimate encounters, growth in certain respects had become even more pronounced. At the very least, he was already feeling somewhat lustful now.
Every time he could not help recalling the entanglement in the cave with Han Luode, his body would produce an instinctive impulse, fierce and unstoppable. No matter how he resisted, it was useless; only release could dispel that feeling.
Even so, although his body found satisfaction, his mind only grew more vexed. He did not want to become one of those people. He could not believe that he liked men. He could not accept that fact. He wanted to flee, yet the more he tried to flee, the less escape there seemed to be.
Again and again he recalled that incomparable pleasure, that instant climax. Wang Luo’s spirit suffered double torment, and even his cultivation had been put on hold.
“Damn it... I don’t want to think about this. Breaking through to the seventh rank is what matters most!”
Shaking his head, he shouted a few times in his heart and gathered his thoughts. Then Wang Luo walked toward the azure serpent. Whether he could break through to the seventh rank depended on this moment alone.
Seeing Wang Luo step by step approaching the azure serpent, the Tusk Boar revealed an anxious and conflicted expression. After only a brief hesitation, however, determination appeared in its eyes.
Thud--
Huff...
Hurrying forward, with a thud, the Tusk Boar dropped straight to its knees before Wang Luo, blocking the way between Wang Luo and the azure serpent. It snorted and grunted anxiously, eyes pleading as it looked at Wang Luo, at the master it had acknowledged.
“Fat Pig, you--”
Staring blankly at the Tusk Boar’s actions, Wang Luo did not know what to say. He had truly not expected the boar to do this. With a complicated glance at the quietly lying azure serpent, Wang Luo felt his heart deeply shaken.
A high-level magic beast, the azure serpent; a low-level magic beast, the Tusk Boar. The two were of different kinds, with a gap between them beyond remedy. What was it that made the Tusk Boar willing to violate the oath of loyalty it had sworn and block Wang Luo’s path? Could this be what they called love?
“Xu Xian and Madame Bai, the snake-and-man romance, are an oddity. Dong Yong and the Seven Fairies are an oddity. Now the Tusk Boar and the azure serpent are oddities too. I am an oddity as well. But I am different from them. They can still be understood, because yin and yang complement each other. As for me...”
“Alas, what should I do? What on earth should I do? Keep escaping, or face reality...”
Looking at the urgent light in the Tusk Boar’s eyes, Wang Luo hesitated, then fell into confusion. Raising his gaze toward the road ahead, with the vast world before him, he did not know where he should go...
