“Has the Zuo family been annihilated?” The Fifth Master widened his eyes in disbelief.
He knew the Zuo clan could never be a match for Mo Han.
And yet he could not believe that such a powerful clan had all fallen into Mo Han’s hands.
Mo Han was very strong—there was no doubt about that.
If it were one-on-one, no brother of the Zuo household could stand against him.
Even with three of them fighting together, he had still thought there was a chance to give Mo Han a fight.
But this result was beyond anything he expected.

“But Zuo Lengdan got away,” Badao said.

The Fifth Master shook his head. “He was probably let go on purpose.”

“Why?” Badao frowned, unwilling to accept it.
He thought Mo Han must have been unable to catch him, so he let him escape.
If the Zuo family had been an enemy to him beyond forgiveness, why would he spare Zuo Lengdan at all?

“I don’t know why, but you must believe it. No one can read what Mo Han truly thinks.
Perhaps he let Zuo Lengdan go to hook a bigger fish.
Or perhaps, in his eyes, Zuo Lengdan is only an ant, not worth a thought at all,” the Fifth Master said.

“You are very clever; no wonder you were once the king of Qian City’s underworld circles.”

At that moment Mo Han entered, and behind him were Xu Jing and a renowned doctor he had summoned.
Badao’s face changed at once, his eyes carrying a trace of fear as he looked at Mo Han.
They had been whispering about him in secret; he did not know if Mo Han had come looking to settle accounts.
The Fifth Master, however, remained calm.

“In front of you, there is no king,” the Fifth Master said wryly.
He spoke the truth.

“How is your injury healing?” Mo Han looked over the Fifth Master and asked.

“It’s enough now that I can walk,” he said.

“Mm. Good.” Mo Han nodded.

“You gave me a chance before, didn’t you?” Mo Han turned toward him.

The Fifth Master’s heart stirred. He looked at Mo Han and gave neither nod nor shake.

Because he had not guessed what Mo Han meant.
“Your Juxian Estate is still kept for you. I know it was built on intelligence gathering. I’m sending you back now to take up your old trade,” Mo Han said.
Only then did the Fifth Master understand—Mo Han wanted him to gather information for him, to act as his agent.

“I have one request,” the Fifth Master suddenly said, now understanding clearly.

“You have no right to make a request of me,” Mo Han said coldly.

“I can lay down my life for you, from the bottom of my heart!” the Fifth Master said, unwavering.

Mo Han said nothing. His eyes narrowed slightly.

“Speak.” Only after a pause did he nod.

The Fifth Master produced a photograph and handed it to Mo Han.
Mo Han looked at it: a young girl with an almost pure, unspoiled face.

“She is coming back to Qian City in a few days. I’ll have someone guide her to apply for work at the pharmaceutical factory. My only condition is this—I hope you can keep her safe. If you agree, this life of mine is yours. Take it whenever you wish.”
The Fifth Master stared at him and then at the girl in the photo, then nodded.

“As long as she is in Qian City, I can keep her safe.”

Mo Han returned the picture and added, “How many people. What kind of people—you choose them yourself from the construction site.”

Then he looked toward Badao. “As for you, you may stay with him. But every ten days I’ll test your strength. If you’re still this useless, I’ll punch your skull apart.”

As he spoke, he handed Badao a hand-drawn secret manual, then left with Xu Jing.
The doctor remained to do the final check on the Fifth Master.

Holding the manual Mo Han had tossed him, Badao finally understood what Mo Han had meant by giving him a chance.
And the clearer he understood, the more bitter he felt.

“Don’t overthink it. Practice hard, serve him. At least it’s better than serving the Mo household,” the Fifth Master said, patting Badao on the shoulder.
If he were in the service of the Mo family, he knew they would not only fail to protect his daughter, but might, at a critical moment, use her as leverage against him.
He knew he would not end this life in peace.
That is why he had never acknowledged his daughter, and had only set aside money for her.

Yet he believed in the might of the Mo family. He and Badao had effectively betrayed them; eventually, the Mo family would uncover his daughter’s identity.
Then, it could very well turn against her.
So he decided to spend the rest of his life serving Mo Han, exchanging that devotion for Mo Han’s promise to protect his daughter fully.
He trusted his own eyes.
He believed that once Mo Han promised, he would never break his word.

Of course, it was also his only possible path.
No matter what, he would take a gamble.

……

The destruction of the Zuo clan temporarily steadied several nearby city underworld circles that had been itching to rise.
At least until Mo Han’s true identity was exposed, hardly anyone dared to toy with Qian City’s underworld again.
By chance, this became the quietest stretch Qian City had known in a while.
Even more, the pharmaceutical factory’s development was moving with unprecedented smoothness.

For Dongjia Group, however, this was the beginning of a nightmare.
With the Zuo family’s downfall, the factory’s fame spread more than ever, and those big shots gave Yan Yutang no room to keep any respectable face.
At full speed, Dongjia Group was pushed straight toward bankruptcy.
Within Yan Yutang, resentment and regret warred with each other.
Regret for his foolish betrayal of Mo Han.
But no one had any pity left for him.

Three days later, the Rejuvenation Pill finally came to market, represented by a pharmaceutical company newly established by Chen Churan.
Although she was only a child of the Chen family and had only just started her own company, no one doubted her ability.
After all, behind her stood the powerful Chen clan.
She held the distribution of the highly anticipated vitality elixir, the Rejuvenation Pill.

The moment it launched, it won immediate acclaim.
Every pharmacy saw endless lines of people rushing to buy.
Fortunately, the factory issued a notice: ten pills were enough, and taking more was of no use.
Otherwise, those retail pharmacies would have been crushed by the crowds.
Even so, on the very first day of release, nearly the first batch was sold out.
The factory had to accelerate production.
At the same time, the new factory site, the security company, and other preparations were all progressing well.
With so many workers, it was expected that within a month both the security company and the new plant would be in operation.
