Chapter 96: Delivering the Corpse
“Investigate!” Watching Mo Han leave, Ma Li Lai uttered a single word before turning back into the private room.
But Sun Da Long and the others understood his meaning and quickly sprang into action.
“Old Ma, when did Qian City produce such a ruthless figure? That’s someone from the Zuo family in Yu Zhou—he crippled him just like that?” an elder seated opposite Ma Li Lai asked.
This elder was Feng Qian Kun, a major player in Yu Zhou’s underworld. Upon hearing that the kingpin of Qian City’s underworld, Fifth Master, had fallen, the Yu Zhou bosses naturally wanted to seize a piece of the pie in Qian City.
The other two men and one woman were also influential figures in Yu Zhou’s underworld.
The fact that Fifth Master and Ba Dao—who had dominated the underworld for more than a decade—had both been defeated so abruptly left them all stunned.
They had even suspected Ma Li Lai was making a comeback and had acted in secret.
So Feng Qian Kun and the other Yu Zhou bosses came to Qian City in person to see if Ma Li Lai was behind the incident.
Otherwise, they couldn’t imagine anyone in Qian City capable of bringing down both Fifth Master and Ba Dao.
“Qian City has always been a place where dragons and tigers lie in wait—why be surprised?” Ma Li Lai glanced at Feng Qian Kun and smiled. “That young man just now was a dragon himself.”
“With you in Qian City, any dragon or tiger would have to crawl,” Feng Qian Kun laughed.
Ma Li Lai chuckled softly.
“Don’t bother probing. I’m just as curious as you are—whoever crippled Fifth Master and Ba Dao, I have yet to find out.”
Ma Li Lai understood Feng Qian Kun’s intentions and spoke frankly.
He wasn’t lying.
He had retired from the underworld for years.
He rarely paid attention to such matters now.
The fall of Fifth Master and Ba Dao surprised him as well.
He had tried to investigate, but so far, nothing had come of it.
“You don’t know either?” This genuinely surprised Feng Qian Kun.
He trusted Ma Li Lai.
On this matter, Ma Li Lai likely wasn’t lying.
But if even Ma Li Lai didn’t know who brought down Fifth Master and Ba Dao, then this person was hidden indeed.
“I’ve looked into it. But not too closely—I don’t want to alert them,” Ma Li Lai mused.
“So you still don’t know what he looks like?” Feng Qian Kun was astonished.
“I’ve never even heard of such a person,” Ma Li Lai shook his head.
“He looks like this.” The woman beside Feng Qian Kun handed a photograph to Ma Li Lai.
“Isn’t that him?” Ma Li Lai stared at the man in the photograph, his heart jolting.
His mind flashed back to Mo Han, who had single-handedly taken down more than twenty of his security guards.
“Who?” The woman was puzzled.
No one spoke; all eyes turned to the man in the photograph.
Naturally, each recalled the young man who had cradled two women in his arms and, with a single foot, had bested Ma Li Lai’s twenty security guards.
Though the photo showed only a profile, upon careful thought, it was clearly the man who had just left.
“So it was him!”
Feng Qian Kun and the others drew a sharp breath. They realized Ma Li Lai had not lied.
He truly didn’t know who this man was.
Otherwise, that earlier scene would never have occurred.
“Old Ma, you must help us investigate his background.”
Feng Qian Kun leaned forward, his tone serious: “We just want to know if he’s from the north, or which powerful northern faction he might belong to. As a gesture of good faith, we’re willing to cede some of Qian City’s underworld assets.”
Ma Li Lai smiled. “That’s unnecessary. I’ve been out of the game for years, and I don’t wish to be tainted by underworld affairs again.
Still, I’ll have someone look into his background, and I’ll let you know when I find out.”
He had already forsaken the vast underworld empire and worked hard to clean up his reputation.
He wouldn’t accept Feng Qian Kun’s offer.
He was simply curious as to who Mo Han truly was.
To defeat both Fifth Master and Ba Dao, this was no ordinary person.
Such a young man, he hadn’t seen for many years.
...
“Are Zuo Leng Qi and Zuo Wen Shan dead yet?”
After escorting Li An An and Ma Jiao Jiao home, Mo Han returned to the pharmaceutical factory, where Xu Jing and the others awaited him.
Li Qi Lang had joined their group, but went home every evening.
When Mo Han left the Sheraton earlier, he had called Xu Jing and asked him to retrieve Zuo Wen Shan.
“Zuo Wen Shan has stopped breathing. Zuo Leng Qi likely won’t survive the night either,” Xu Jing replied.
“Good. Send both their bodies to the Zuo family in Yu Zhou!”
A flash of murderous intent glimmered in Mo Han’s eyes.
Since the Zuo family was courting death, he would oblige them.
Anyone who dared to cross his boundaries would be punished, no matter how far.
“Understood.”
Xu Jing nodded, excitement gleaming in his eyes.
Brother Han was about to provoke the Zuo family completely.
In recent times, as their fighting strength had grown, each of them felt an inexhaustible energy inside.
They all wanted a proper fight.
Xu Jing had the bodies of Zuo Wen Shan and Zuo Leng Qi wrapped in shrouds, loaded them into the trunk of his BMW, and, accompanied by several “beasts” with gleaming eyes, set off for Yu Zhou.
Yu Zhou was only a little more than two hours from Qian City—not far at all.
They would finish the task and return tonight.
Meanwhile.
At the Zuo family estate in Yu Zhou.
“Master, Huang Yu Long seems intent on monopolizing the Qian City underworld. My people found out today that Feng Qian Kun and the others have already gone to Qian City,” the steward reported to Zuo Leng Dan, head of the Zuo family.
“Huang Yu Long?” A cold smile appeared in Zuo Leng Dan’s eyes.
Though Huang Yu Long was the kingpin of Yu Zhou’s underworld,
now that the Zuo family was about to carve up the underworld, there would be no place for Huang Yu Long.
“Don’t worry about him. Call Wen Shan and ask about the situation in Qian City,”
Zuo Leng Dan said, dismissing Huang Yu Long’s concerns.
Previously, the Zuo family had stayed out of the underworld because the big boss behind them forbade it.
Now that their patron was dabbling in the underworld, the Zuo family no longer held back.
With the global economy in decline and business increasingly difficult, many enterprises had collapsed under the broader economic climate. Many powerhouses had turned their sights to the crude, lucrative underworld.
The force behind the Zuo family now had its eyes on the underworld in Yu Zhou and Qian City.
“Master, no one’s answering—not even Zuo Leng Qi,” the steward said after making the calls.
“No one’s picking up? What are they doing?” Zuo Leng Dan frowned, an inexplicable sense of foreboding welling up inside.
“Master, something terrible has happened—someone has delivered Second Young Master’s corpse!”
Just then, a servant rushed in, panic-stricken.
“What did you say?”
Zuo Leng Dan was struck like lightning. He had just felt a premonition of disaster, and now hearing the servant’s words, he was shaken to the core.
