Chapter 43: Are You Even Worthy of Being My Uncle?
During this period, the pharmaceutical factory was running smoothly, which put both Li Xiande and Xu Fang in excellent spirits and transformed their attitude toward Mo Han entirely. They both knew very well that all of this was thanks to Mo Han. If not for him, Li Xiande might have ended up in prison. In their eyes, Mo Han had gone from being a useless fool to the ideal son-in-law. Even Li Xiaoxiao, whenever she came home from school, would eagerly share stories and interesting events from her school life with Mo Han. The shift in the Li family's attitude warmed Mo Han's heart.
At that moment, in the pharmaceutical factory, Li Anan had just arrived at her office to find her grandfather, Li Zhendong, and several others already waiting for her. Li Anan was taken aback, a sense of foreboding rising within her.
“Grandpa. Uncle,” Li Anan greeted them.
“Anan, you’ve done exceptionally well. It seems I didn’t misjudge you,” Li Zhendong said kindly, smiling at her.
Li Anan remained silent, waiting for her grandfather to explain his purpose.
“Anan, you’ve passed the family’s assessment. I am officially promoting you to General Manager of the pharmaceutical factory. You’ll manage it together with your cousin, Li Bing,” Li Zhendong continued.
Li Anan’s heart jolted, a surge of anger welling up inside her. “Grandpa, the pharmaceutical factory belongs to me now!”
She hadn’t expected her grandfather to be so shameless, trying to seize the factory just after she had resolved all the crises. She and Mo Han had worked tirelessly to secure it; there was no way she would give it back.
“Li Anan, you’re part of the Li family. Do you intend to defy the family rules?” Li Bing said gleefully, savoring the prospect of reaping the rewards without effort. His grandfather had agreed to make him president of the factory, while Li Anan would be relegated to his assistant.
“I am indeed a member of the Li family, but it was you who forced my father to sign the transfer contract in the first place!” Li Anan retorted angrily. The nerve of these people! Back then, they had pressured her father into signing over the factory so that her family would take the blame. Now that the crisis was resolved, they wanted to fight her for it. Were these really her relatives?
“Li Anan, perhaps you’re unaware, but the contract your father signed was never notarized. It’s not legally binding,” Li Bing sneered.
Li Anan’s heart skipped a beat. She believed this might be true, otherwise they wouldn’t be so confident in reclaiming the factory.
“In any case, it was I who resolved the crisis at the factory. None of you will take it from me!” Li Anan’s body trembled with rage, but she refused to yield.
“Hmph, Anan, you have truly disappointed me!” Li Zhendong’s face turned cold. “Since you are so ungrateful, I have no choice but to expel your entire family from the clan!
Li Bing, take some men and drive Li Xiande and his wife out of the ancestral house. Reclaim the Li family residence as well!”
Li Zhendong’s voice was firm and brooked no argument. Li Xiande was only his adopted son, and Li Anan was nothing more than a pawn to be used. Now that the pawn was rebelling, he would not tolerate it.
Li Anan was shaken to the core, never expecting her grandfather to be so tyrannical and merciless.
“Yes, Grandfather,” Li Bing replied, leading several bodyguards out.
“Li Bing, if you dare lay a finger on my parents, I’ll fight you with everything I have!” Li Anan shouted in fury, chasing after them. But Li Bing and his men had much faster cars than her old Volkswagen, and soon left her far behind.
...
“Bang!”
Xu Fang and Li Xiande were watching television when a loud crash sounded at the door.
“What was that?” Xu Fang asked, puzzled.
“Let’s go take a look,” Li Xiande replied, equally confused.
Xu Fang opened the door to see the courtyard gate had been torn off its hinges, and seven or eight burly men, led by Li Bing, were charging in.
“Li Bing, what are you doing?” Xu Fang demanded, both shocked and furious.
Li Bing strolled forward with a sly smile, looking at Xu Fang’s angry face. “Grandfather gave you a chance, but you didn’t cherish it. Now, your family is expelled, and we’re taking back the factory and ancestral house.”
“What did you say?” Xu Fang could hardly believe it—how could anyone be so shameless?
“I said your family has been cast out by Grandfather. Now, pack up your worthless belongings and get out!” Li Bing sneered, waving his hand. “Throw them all out. Smash the furniture, everything!”
“You monsters, this is my home! What right do you have to evict us?” Xu Fang screamed, flailing her arms in desperation. But a bodyguard twisted her arm and tossed her aside with ease.
“Li Bing, I’m your third uncle! What do you think you’re doing?” Li Xiande roared, trembling with rage.
“Uncle?” Li Bing mocked. “You’re nothing but a stray dog Grandfather took in. Do you really think you deserve to be called my uncle?”
Blood spurted from Li Xiande’s mouth; he hadn’t expected Li Bing to say something so cruel.
“Throw them out!” Li Bing ordered ruthlessly.
Several bodyguards forcibly dragged Li Xiande and his wife out of the house.
At that moment, Li Anan finally arrived.
She stepped out of her car to see her parents being thrown out, her whole body trembling with fury.
“Li Bing, what are you trying to do?” Li Anan shouted.
Li Bing approached Li Anan, sneering. “Grandfather already told you—your entire family is expelled.”
“Li Bing, must you be so ruthless?” Despair surged in Li Anan’s heart.
“Yes, I must be ruthless!” Li Bing replied with a mocking smile. “Do you know why Grandfather treats your family this way?”
“It’s because your father is just a stray dog he took in!”
“Shut up!” Li Anan’s mind went blank with rage, and she raised her hand to slap Li Bing. But he caught her wrist easily.
Li Bing’s eyes glinted with contempt. “Have you never wondered why your father was never entrusted with anything important?”
His words struck like thunder. In that instant, both Li Anan and Xu Fang felt a deafening roar in their minds, unable to believe what they were hearing.
“Li Xiande, what is going on?!” Xu Fang glared at her husband, furious.
She had married Li Xiande because he was a wealthy heir. Had she known he was only Li Zhendong’s adopted son, she would never have married him.
Li Xiande’s face was ashen. He truly was an adopted child, and not long ago, Li Jianwu had forced him to sign the contract by threatening to expose his status. Having been abandoned as a child, he’d always felt inferior and never wanted anyone to know the truth. All he’d ever wished for was a quiet life. Now, with his secret exposed, everything was in chaos.
“Dad, say something!” Li Anan didn’t want to accept this truth.
But at that very moment, while Li Anan was off guard, Li Bing suddenly pulled out a silk handkerchief and pressed it over her mouth. She struggled for a moment before losing consciousness.
While Xu Fang and Li Xiande were distracted, Li Bing quickly carried Li Anan to the car and drove away with several bodyguards.
By the time the couple realized what had happened, it was far too late to know where Li Bing had taken Li Anan.
“Hurry and call Mo Han! Anan could be in danger!” Li Xiande said urgently, setting aside his grief in his worry for his daughter.
