Chapter 48: Take Him Down!
At the First People's Hospital, Qin Changqing and his companions waited outside the operating room, their expressions dark and foreboding. In Qian City, someone had dared to cripple his son; this was a declaration of war against the Qin family, a feud to the death.
His wife, Zhou Yan, and daughter, Qin Shuang, could not help but weep whenever they recalled Qin Haoran's tragic condition. What kind of hatred, what kind of grudge, would drive someone to such brutality, beating a person into that state?
The rest of the Qin family, upon hearing the dreadful news, rushed to the hospital. By the time they arrived, Qin Haoran had already been transferred to the intensive care unit.
At that moment, the doors to the operating room swung open, and the chief physician stepped out first.
"Dr. Wang, how is my son?" The Qin family hurried forward, crowding around him.
The chief physician removed his mask, wiped the sweat from his brow, and said regretfully, "Mr. Qin, your son's injuries are severe. Three ribs are broken, both hands and feet have suffered comminuted fractures. While his life has been saved, it's likely he'll never regain strength in his hands or feet."
A thunderbolt seemed to strike the Qin family.
Though their family was large and powerful, their lineage was thin—Qin Haoran was the only male heir. Now that he was crippled, who would inherit the Qin family's fortune?
"My son!" Zhou Yan gasped, her blood rushing upward, her face suddenly pale as she fainted on the spot.
"Mom, Mom! Are you alright?" Qin Shuang quickly caught her mother, worry etched deeply in her heart.
"She has suffered a shock, that's all. Take her to a nearby ward to rest; she'll recover," Dr. Wang advised.
The Qin family hurried to help Qin Shuang support Zhou Yan and move her.
"Dr. Wang, if we send him to the capital or abroad, is there any hope of recovery?" Qin Changqing asked, taking a deep breath.
Dr. Wang thought for a moment and sighed, "There is a possibility, but a full recovery is unlikely."
"I don't need him to fully recover. He's the only male heir our family has..." Qin Changqing conceded.
"I understand. Wait until his condition stabilizes in a few days, then we can send him to the capital for further treatment," Dr. Wang replied.
Qin Changqing nodded, and Dr. Wang took his leave. After such a long operation, he was exhausted and needed rest.
After Dr. Wang left, a young man approached Qin Changqing. His sharp gaze marked him as no ordinary person.
"Mr. Qin, I've got the surveillance footage," the young man said.
"Do you know who it is?" Qin Changqing asked in a cold tone.
"I don't recognize him. He's a young man—take a look," the youth replied, pulling out his phone and showing Qin Changqing several screenshots.
"Who is he?"
Qin Changqing frowned at the images, not recognizing the man in them.
"I remember him—he's the live-in son-in-law of the Li family, called Mo Han. He was even featured in the newspaper a few years ago," a middle-aged man beside the young man chimed in.
"Mo Han, the Li family's live-in son-in-law?" Qin Changqing's face grew even darker.
"No matter what means you use, you must bring him to me. Dead or alive!" Qin Changqing ordered, his eyes flashing with murderous intent.
Someone had dared to cripple his son; regardless of Mo Han's identity or connections, Qin Changqing would never let him live.
"Understood." The young man nodded heavily and left the hospital.
...
"What did you say? This is your family's villa?"
Half an hour later, Li Xianwu arrived at the mountaintop villa on Wangtian Peak with several bodyguards. Hearing Xu Fang claim the villa as her own, Li Xianwu stared in disbelief.
"Hmph, you thought that after kicking us out of the old house, we'd have nowhere to live? We wouldn't stoop to inhabit that shabby place!" Xu Fang retorted disdainfully.
"Third brother, is this true?" Li Xianwu turned to Li Xiande, unable to believe Xu Fang's words.
He knew of this mountaintop villa—it was the finest of them all, reserved for the Chen family's own use. Some had estimated that if the Chen family ever put it up for auction, it would fetch at least eighty million. It was, without a doubt, the most luxurious residence in all of Qian City.
"It's true. Someone gave it to Mo Han," Li Xiande replied, his pent-up frustration finally easing a little.
Earlier, being chased out of the old family home like a stray dog had nearly made him spit blood. Now, he had completely given up on the Li family, harboring no lingering affection.
"Was it the Chen family?" Li Xianwu pressed, his heart pounding.
"No, it was someone of far greater stature. Even the Chen family sought his favor. The villa was first gifted to him by the Chen family, and today he transferred it to my son-in-law, putting it under my daughter's name," Xu Fang declared proudly. "Did you really think that leaving the Li family would leave us destitute? We'll live just as well—if not better—without you!"
She spoke, feeling thoroughly vindicated.
Years spent enduring the whims of Li Zhentong and Li Xianwu had finally come to an end; Xu Fang relished the moment, seizing the chance to put Li Xianwu in his place.
A figure even the Chen family courted? How could that be possible? Mo Han was nothing but a useless wretch, wasn't he?
Li Xianwu's mind raced, unable to unravel the mystery.
But remembering Xu Biao's request, he could only put this matter aside for the time being.
"By the way, third brother, where is Mo Han?" Li Xianwu asked with a smile.
"Why do you want to see him?" Xu Fang eyed Li Xianwu warily.
"It's nothing," Li Xianwu replied, then an idea struck him. He smiled, "It's just that the Rejuvenation Pill was said to be formulated by Mo Han. I wanted to ask him how much he'd sell the recipe for."
Li Xiande and Xu Fang fell silent. They knew about this and felt tempted by the prospect. Though they now had a place to live, they were short on money, and the future seemed uncertain. If the formula for the Rejuvenation Pill could fetch a good price, their worries would be over.
"He and An'an went to buy groceries. They should be back soon. Wait here for a bit," Xu Fang said, her attitude softening.
"Alright, no rush. We'll just wait for them," Li Xianwu said, sitting down, secretly pleased. Li An'an had been released by Qin Haoran, making things much easier for him; there was no need to explain anything to Xu Biao.
Ten minutes later, Mo Han and Li An'an finally returned.
As soon as they got out of the car, Li Xianwu rushed over with his bodyguards.
"Mo Han, An'an, perfect timing! Let me take you somewhere," Li Xianwu said with a smile.
"Get lost!" Mo Han's face darkened; he had no affection for the Li family and planned to deal with Li Bing another day. He certainly had no intention of giving Li Xianwu any courtesy.
Li Xianwu's expression changed, shocked that Mo Han dared to speak to him that way.
"Take him! Drag him away!" Li Xianwu ordered coldly.
