Chapter 78: Even You Will Not Be Spared
“Mohan, you’d better watch your mouth. In front of Young Master Zuo, you have no room for insolence,” Li Bing said, trying to stir up trouble.
A crisp slap rang out.
Li Han struck Li Bing across the face without the slightest hesitation.
“You—you actually hit me!” Li Bing was stunned that Mohan acted so swiftly, and in front of Zuo Wenshan and the others no less. His face burned with humiliation.
With a furious shout, he lunged toward Mohan.
“Courting death!”
Mohan raised his foot and kicked Li Bing squarely in the stomach, sending him flying.
“You and your father would do well not to provoke me again, or you’ll regret ever being born,” Li Han said in a low, cold voice.
“Mohan, even a dog is spared for its master’s sake. Now that Li Bing follows me, he’s my dog. You dare strike him in front of me—what are you trying to prove?” one of the young men sneered.
Lying on the ground, Li Bing heard this and nearly coughed up blood.
A dog?
When had he fallen so low?
Yet he dared not protest. He still needed Zuo Wenshan to back him up and help his family deal with Mohan.
“Are you certain you want to provoke me?” Mohan looked toward Zuo Wenshan, a flash of disdain in his eyes.
“In this city, there’s no one I, Zuo Wenshan, am afraid to cross. And who do you think you are?” Zuo Wenshan replied arrogantly, not regarding Mohan as anything worth his attention.
Li Bing and Cheng Quan’s eyes shone with anticipation as Zuo Wenshan spoke. They both loathed Mohan with all their hearts, wishing nothing more than for him to die.
Though the Zuo family wasn’t native to this city, even the top Chen family had to show Zuo Wenshan respect. No one here dared offend the Zuo family.
Mohan raised his hand, about to slap Zuo Wenshan, but Li An’an seized his wrist.
“Let’s just go inside,” she urged, instantly recognizing Zuo Wenshan’s unusual status.
She could see clearly that Zuo Wenshan and his companions were waiting for Mohan to make a move, giving them the excuse they wanted.
She was no fool; it was obvious that Li Bing and the others had come here today specifically to provoke them. She would not fall into their trap.
Mohan glanced at Zuo Wenshan, then said nothing more and followed Li An’an toward the hotel entrance.
“Aren’t you being a bit too domineering?” At that moment, a young man beside Zuo Wenshan finally spoke up. “You hit Young Master Zuo’s dog right in front of him and think you can just walk away as if Young Master Zuo doesn’t exist?”
The young man folded his arms, looking at Mohan with mocking amusement.
Mohan shot him a look. Such obvious attempts at incitement—yet Zuo Wenshan seemed oblivious. Mohan shook his head in silent derision.
“What do you want?” Li An’an frowned.
“Nothing much. All we ask is that you share a few drinks with us later,” Zuo Wenshan replied with a smile.
Though he’d seen his share of beautiful women in Yuzhou, none had ever struck him like Li An’an. At first glance, he was utterly enthralled.
“Sorry, I don’t drink,” Li An’an replied coolly.
“Miss, perhaps I should introduce myself first. I am Zuo Wenshan of the Zuo family from Yuzhou. My father is the current head of the family. I suggest you look up our family before you refuse me,” Zuo Wenshan said, his expression proud.
“Li An’an, the Zuo family is a giant in Yuzhou. Even our city’s Chen family has to give Young Master Zuo due respect. The Zuo family is here by invitation to invest and develop in our city—soon they’ll be the dominant force,” Li Bing said, approaching with a gloating look.
“Well? Do you still intend to refuse me?” Zuo Wenshan smiled as if victory was assured.
Any woman he set his sights on, he got.
“Are you out of your mind?”
To his surprise, Li An’an looked back at him with utter disdain.
“What?” Zuo Wenshan thought he’d misheard.
“I said you’re insane. Get lost!” Li An’an was blunt and unyielding.
To begin with, she didn’t know Zuo Wenshan or care about the Zuo family’s influence. Moreover, she detested his manner.
Most importantly, with Jiang Li present, she had nothing to fear.
“Are you looking for death?”
Zuo Wenshan’s face darkened with rage. Never had he met a woman so oblivious to her own interests.
Any woman he desired would fall into his grasp—none had ever escaped.
“The one looking for death is you. If you don’t scram, I’ll slap you too,” Mohan stepped protectively in front of Li An’an, his gaze icy as he fixed it on Zuo Wenshan.
“You brat, do you know who I am? Today, if she doesn’t climb into my—”
Before he could finish, Mohan’s hand flashed out and sent him flying with a resounding slap.
With that blow, Zuo Wenshan was hurled more than three meters away, one of his front teeth knocked loose.
He crashed to the ground with a heavy thud, his head spinning.
Looking up at Mohan, fury filled his heart.
Mohan had actually dared to strike him!
He’d even broken his tooth!
“How dare you speak to my wife like that? Are you courting death?” Mohan’s cold gaze bore into Zuo Wenshan, his body radiating an intense killing intent.
Zuo Wenshan’s heart trembled; the look in Mohan’s eyes filled him with terror.
He’d planned to spit out a few more threats, but now not a single word would come.
It was terrifying—a true aura of death.
This so-called useless son-in-law of the Li family had definitely killed before!
“Mohan, you’re dead. You dared to hit Young Master Zuo—you’ll pay when the Zuo family takes their revenge!” Li Bing gloated.
“One more word and I’ll beat you too,” Mohan shot him a chilling look.
The murderous intent in Mohan’s eyes made Li Bing shudder. He quickly fell silent.
At that moment, he truly feared Mohan.
“All right, let’s go,” Li An’an urged, worried that Mohan might strike again.
Mohan nodded. “Remember, you are my wife. In this world, no one can bully you. If anyone dares, I’ll make them pay a terrible price.”
A warmth bloomed in Li An’an’s heart, her eyes shining with emotion. She hurriedly took Mohan’s hand and led the group into the hotel.
“So this is the useless son-in-law you mentioned from your Li family?”
Just then, the instigating youth from before finally spoke, watching Mohan’s retreating figure thoughtfully.
“Yes, he’s a complete waste, a lunatic who throws punches at the slightest provocation,” Li Bing replied.
A lunatic?
Wu Feng smiled, then walked over to Zuo Wenshan, his face full of concern.
“Young Master Zuo, are you all right?”
“Hmph! That I, Zuo Wenshan, should suffer such humiliation in a backwater like this—I will have my revenge!” Zuo Wenshan growled, unable to swallow his anger.
“You’re bleeding at the mouth. Perhaps you should see a doctor first,” Wu Feng suggested.
“My tooth’s gone—I’ll make sure he loses every last one of his!” Zuo Wenshan nodded, his voice venomous.
Wu Feng offered no further comment, instead helping Zuo Wenshan to the car to head to the hospital.
Yet in his eyes, a trace of schadenfreude flashed—unseen by anyone.
