Chapter 144: Crushing Victory
Li Hu led his men to within three meters of Mo Han and his group. Seeing the four of them standing their ground, ready to take on over a hundred people, he was momentarily stunned. Having spent over a decade in the underworld, eventually rising to become the top boss of the Xiuwen underground, he had encountered countless tough characters, but these four were the boldest he had ever met. Four against a hundred, and yet they showed no fear—that was true grit.
"I, Li Hu, am a reasonable man. This kid beat up over twenty of my brothers earlier. If you Xu family members tie him up and hand him over, I won’t hold a grudge for what happened before." Although Li Hu felt a sliver of respect for them, he had not forgotten his mission: to take Mo Han and his wife to Zuo Lengdan.
"Xu Kai, agree to it!" Xu Hong shouted from within the crowd. As long as they handed Mo Han over and Li Hu stopped causing trouble for them, she was more than willing. Above all, she did not want to see Wu Qiming get hurt.
"Uncle, they already said they’re only here because Mo Han hit their people. Why are you still getting involved? Come back, quickly!" Wu Wan also shouted. She knew her father’s temper well, so she didn't call him "Dad," addressing him by his name, Xu Kai, to protect her father's reputation from the disdain directed at her uncle.
Xu Kai said nothing, only tightening his grip on the steel pipe.
"Shut your mouths, both of you!" Wu Qiming turned and snapped at Xu Hong and Wu Wan.
"Wu Qiming, if you want to die, go do it somewhere else! Don't be an eyesore!" Angered by his retort, Xu Hong snapped back. Those nearby shook their heads, disgusted by her shamelessness.
Ignoring her, Wu Qiming stared at Li Hu, gripping his pipe tightly. "Li Hu, it was me who ordered the men who beat your subordinates. It has nothing to do with the others. If you want revenge, come for me."
"Wu Qiming, are you insane? Do you want to die?" Xu Hong stomped her feet in frustration, wishing she could drag him away. When Li Hu hadn't specifically named Mo Han, she had nothing to say, but now that they were clearly targeting only him, how could she let them drag her family to their graves?
"If it’s a fight you want, then let’s fight!" Xu Jin, unable to stomach the scene any longer, charged forward with his steel pipe. The shameless words of Xu Hong and Wu Wan had pushed him to his limit; he would rather die fighting than listen to another word from them.
Seeing Xu Jin charge, Mo Han was momentarily speechless, though he admired the man's courage. "Let's fight, then," Mo Han said, tightening his grip on two steel pipes before charging in as well.
Li Hu and his men were wide-eyed with shock. Usually, people feared them, and no one dared to move unless they struck first. The four members of the Xu family had completely shattered his worldview. Li Hu snatched a steel pipe from one of his thugs, eager to see if Mo Han was truly as skilled as rumors suggested.
Suddenly, a commotion erupted from behind. Several vans screeched to a halt behind their vehicles, and thirty men poured out—men who looked far more ferocious than his own. Mo Han recognized them; it was Xu Jing and his reinforcements.
Mo Han didn't hesitate, surging ahead of Xu Jin. With a steel pipe in each hand, he was unstoppable; no one could last a single round against him. Every swing took down a thug. Mo Han’s ferocity emboldened Xu Jin and the others, who began swinging their pipes wildly. They weren't fighters by nature, but with Mo Han carving a path and drawing all the heat, they found themselves in a safe position to land their own hits on the few thugs who strayed into their path.
"Boss Hu, we have to go! They’re coming for us!" a thug yelled as he watched the newcomers systematically dismantle their ranks. Li Hu knew they were outmatched; these men were giants, each capable of taking down several of his own easily.
"Could this kid have called them?" Li Hu wondered, glancing at Mo Han, who was still wreaking havoc. A flicker of murderous intent crossed his eyes. Even without the reinforcements, he realized he would have struggled to capture Mo Han today. "Who is this guy? Why would Zuo Lengdan put a hundred-million-yuan bounty on him?"
"Boss Hu, we’re going to be surrounded!" the thug urged. Li Hu snapped back to reality and, abandoning his men, fled with his core group. These thirty men were like war machines; he had seen one of them effortlessly flatten ten of his own men in seconds.
With their leaders fleeing, the remaining thugs lost all will to fight and scattered like frightened birds. Seeing Li Hu retreat, Mo Han stopped, knowing the others were no longer a threat. He pulled out his phone and dialed Xu Jing.
"Southwest, twenty meters away. Cut them off," Mo Han commanded. Whether it was to uncover why Li Hu was hunting him or to help Niu Dashan, he had to take Li Hu down.
"Understood." Xu Jing, who had already spotted the fleeing group, hung up and led his men in pursuit.
The Xu family members were stunned to see Li Hu flee, and even more shocked to realize that the newcomers were systematically hunting down the thugs as if chasing strays.
"Mom, who are these people? Why are they helping us?" Wu Wan asked, bewildered.
Xu Hong shook her head, then her eyes lit up. "Could it be Xu Jie? It must be him; who else would help us?" Wu Wan agreed, feeling it was the only logical explanation. Yet, she wondered why Xu Jie wasn't there himself.
"Xiao Wan, call him and ask," Xu Hong suggested expectantly. Just as Wu Wan began searching for the number, she saw the men dragging a captured Li Hu toward Mo Han.
Wu Wan froze. Could they have been called by Mo Han? How could he possibly command such a force? They clearly belonged to an underground faction from elsewhere!
